Diamond stud setting - Pros & Cons?

I think I’ve made an expensive mistake…
In 2017, I bought a pair of smallish (0.6 cttw) diamond studs in a martini setting in yellow gold. I really liked them, but the diamonds were not the best so I eventually sold them.

Then, I bought 1cttw studs in a low profile 4 prong basket setting in white gold. The size and the diamonds were perfect, but I wasn’t totally happy with the white gold and decided to reset them in a 6 prong basket setting in 18k yellow gold. The new setting was very expensive but I new I was paying for quality, they are extremely well made. I liked those new studs but I thought I would wear them more. I thought those diamond studs would be my everyday earrings but I don’t really reach for them that much.

And a week ago I got moissanite studs, 5 mm each (1cttw equivalent) in a three prong martini setting in 18k yellow gold and I can’t take them off! I looove them… I just love them! Of course the setting is not the same quality as my diamond studs, but they’re everything I thought my diamond studs would be.

I don’t know if I should just give up and reset my diamonds for the third time or just wear the moissanite (they’re gorgeous too), but I feel bad about wasting all that money on something I don’t wear much.

I regret setting my diamonds in a basket setting!

I know, resetting stones is SO expensive. A jeweller should be able to buy unset martini mounts rather than make from scratch and perhaps give you credit for your old gold mounts to help with the cost.

But honestly imho, if you love the moissanite ones, just wear them. Save your diamonds for something else…maybe a moi et toi ring, or a necklace? Or even charms that you could wear dangling from the earrings or other jewelry!

Yes, I was thinking that I might wear the moissanite earrings with different, bigger backs (the original ones are too small for my liking) and save the diamonds for another project… it’s just annoying to spend so much money. The six prong basket setting was custom made.
Thank you for the suggestions!
