I suggest you take it back and talk to them...Diamonds can only be scratched by another diamond.
Absolutely take it back and ask for an exchange. Then before you leave the store with the new stone ask for a jewelers loop and look at the diamond. Make them explain what you are looking at and show you on the GIA certificate. Good luck!

Hi all thanks for your comments. :flowers: It definately wasn't dirt its a scratch because when i run my nail over it it catches (see pic it is between two bottom right claws)

So i told my bf last night and we had a fight over it not knowing what to do. Anyway i got him to call them today ask what our options were. The jeweller said it was probaly dirt and to bring it in. So i met my bf in city this afternoon and you can really see it in natural light but when we took it in to the jewellery shop because of there lighting it is hard to see, it just blings all over the place, hence why we didn't notice the first time. He was quite nice about it, said it was an inclusion and to do with clarity but told us we could exchange the stone (THANK GOD). We got shown five new diamonds of similar size but better clarity. I upgraded to a Vs1 from a Si2. We had to pay alot more but we figure it is worth it and it should be ready tommorrow afternoon YAYAYAYAY:yahoo:

I have no idea why i was soooooo nervous about it all. I felt soo sick all day worrying that that couldn't do anything or blame me for it. I just didnt want to be that person who has to come in and make a big deal/ fuss about stuff to get it done properly-why cant it be right the first time? sigh anyway seems things have worked out thanks girls, I'll post pics when i am "given it" which wont be for a few weeks

Did the store where you bought it have you look at the stone under a loop? They should have.

This was our mistake- we did not look at stone under microscope only with naked eye and in shop lights it is hard to see. You get so excited by the process/ pressure its like 'Yup love it lets go' but they never offered us to see it magnified :confused1: Today we demanded to see each stone up close and to have all inclusions pointed out. Full disclosure people

I feel like a royal idiot from this experience but my lesson/advice to all is QUADRUPLE CHECK YOUR STONE!! I am just lucky i saw it this soon and not months down the track where it becomes my word against theirs

I always wondered about these surface inclusions, was it on the girdle or on the table ? Is this what they consider internally flawless ? I am so happy for you that it worked out !

If it was such a visible inclusion,or a surface inclusion/scratch that you can actually feel it...why was it graded SI2? Under that rating you shouldnt be able to see let alone feel an inclusion unless its magnified. At least thats how I understand it.

Unless you are getting your new stone with a reliable certification(GIA),please have it checked by an independent appraiser...Ive learned the hard way that some jewelers are pretty generous with the grading of their own stones & are quick to give a very "friendly appraisal" if its to their benefit.

My intentions are not to worry you, Im glad you noticed the flaw & was able to do something about it, but stay on the safe side for your own piece of mind.

Congratulations on your upcoming engagement:)

Diordarling, I'm so glad you had a wonderful outcome!! Congratulations in advance!

As for the price of putting a laser inscription on the diamond, I cannot remember exactly. We actually took our loose diamond (removed from the mounting by our jeweler) to the GIA center in Carlsbad (near San Diego) ourselves and had it done. Took a couple days. Anyone can work directly with GIA but it is a lot of effort. You might prefer the assistance of your jeweler for this service, particularly since they don't want the diamond mounted for the inscription.

Here is more information on it:
