I really think you just have to look at the stone you're thinking you would like to purchase. I personally preferred that my engagement ring had a steely, icy white diamond, and it does. But I know just as many women (maybe more?) who really prefer a little warmth like in a G, H, I stone. Honestly, when you're talking about engagement diamonds, you want the one that speaks to you - not the one that has a perfect pedigree.

I agree w/ ^^them! LOL!

I had 4 excellent cut stones brought in to choose form and my jeweler didn't tell me the colors. I took them all outside and inspected them and then had each one set into little rings w/ prongs to look at on my finger. I chose an I w/o knowing it. And I havd been researching and looking at loose stones for a while.
My I stone looks white to me and everyone who sees it - a lot of that could be contributed to it's excellent cut. I agree w/ Japster, as uaul :p about flourescence, mine is faint.
