Delicate special pieces vs sturdy every-day?

I have been looking at purses (again lol) & wondering if I should go with a buttery pale lambskin that is delicate but oh so soft & pretty . It will obviously be more of a special occasion bag ; or go with a more durable calfskin every day bag.
That got me thinking about how worthwhile it is to have delicate things. For example, my husband surprised me with beautiful bone china dishes. I love them but also dread one getting broken (kids and all) and they are not dishwasher safe. So they get used maybe 2x a year. The rest of the time I use cheap thick dishes.
Dh wants to know why I don't use it more often; what's the point of having it.
And it is true, why bother spending so much money for the dishes (or new purse) to sit in a box?
On the other hand, there is something so special about having these delicate items.
What are your thoughts about buying durable every day vs delicate special occasion items?
I recently just had a similar dilemma! I decided I wanted a super soft, touchable bag for more informal occasions and regular wear. A bit of luxe and comfort for myself when going to lunch, running errands etc. (I have a formal lambskin bag for weddings, special events, etc but only get to enjoy it a few days a year!) I ended up getting a large lambskin bag last week because I just loved the feel of it and want to just enjoy it. It will show character eventually, but I've decided that's ok! It's for me to enjoy. So ultimately, yes, I think it's worth to have nice things even if they aren't the most durable if it will bring some joy to your every day! :flowers:

@A bottle of Red I think you'd have to have alot of special occasions to have many bags to save for those special moments. One or two, yes. More than that? You might be taking away from the bags you use daily or very often. If you feel like you have to seek justification, that might be a good clue, right?
Do you think you could use those special bags more often? Or are they so delicate not even a saturation with the best leather care helps them to be less vulnerable?

For me, it depends on the item. Paying huge amounts for a clothing item you'll only wear a few times before it goes out of style, or that a child will quickly outgrow? I agree with your husband: what's the point?
But bone china dishes aren't going to go out of style, or not fit in a few years. They can last a lifetime (or more). Plus, I think having special glassware/flatware/plates used only for special occasions can make those occasions even more special and memorable. The special items become part of the tradition/memory. And some bone china is so beautifully done that I would consider it artwork if it's displayed. And artwork is fine to be enjoyed, rather than used. That's the point of it, imo.
