I am holding on to my only Chanel flap for all the reasons mentioned above but find I am not using it at all. I think it is debatable whether that makes any sense

agree it may not make sense Lol, but if you already have one, it’s like a safety bag.

I stopped wearing chanel bags in 2008 or thereabouts, and bought a boutique so black mini chevron reissue last year. I never thought that would happen (I kept my metallic chanel reissues as safety bags as those styles serve a different wardrobe function than Hermes

I will keep the CF for now and rethink after I purchase the kelly. you all have been so helpful xxx

so glad! I think it’s the safest option! Happy shopping! Note: I prefer sellier kelly 28 and it’s not bad turnlock closing so Ling as you carry very little and dont exert much pressure on the flap. If you carry a normal load for longer periods of time, then of course you need to strap it up (underneath the flap) but I find that I can still get things in and out.

I will from now on refer to my CF as my ‘safety bag’ :happydance:

880 do you use your 28 as an evening bag? what is your use for 25 vs 28? If I expanded my options I would probably have a higher chance of getting one

+1 on the sellier kelly! It transitions better from casual to dressy and vice versa than a retourne.

But more difficult open and close, no? I hear different things from different people on whether Epsom Kelly’s are more tricky to open and close compared to Togo

I actually find Epsom easier to open/close because it’s stiffer while togo is a bit more wobbly, especially in retourne so aligning the turnlock to the flap can be a tad bit of a challenge. I’m sure it is an unpopular opinion but I wear my kelly sellier with the flap on its turn lock and the sangles free (usual way to wear but not advisable if your bag is heavy) It is just as difficult for me to open and close a kelly as it is with a Chanel flap when I wear a kelly sellier this way. I use one hand, tuck few fingers under the turnlock, extend my thumb to the flap and bring the two closer while using that arm to slightly push the bag towards my body and voila it’s closed. But, if you choose to close the sangles all the time, that’s when you’ll need more time and patience. Also, my closing process doesn’t work with a retourne kelly since it’s much softer so aligning the flap to turnlock requires more effort. It’s not so bad, or maybe because I have really strong fingers lol

oh maybe I should consider both then and see what happens!

Many members here (like @Notorious Pink) use the 28 kelly as a casual evening bag. I tend not to bc I do think the 28K is a good day bag. (I actually think Hermes bags give off a daytime vibe, but I keep meaning to try to find a kelly Cut or medor). But, more importantly, my evenings are simple restaurants where the bag has to share my seat (and I’m a bit too chunky to do that comfortably with a 28 sellier . Here is a thread discussing where members use their 28‘s. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/second-kelly-or-second-birkin.1042762/ (There are many threads like this)

Lately, for day or night, I’ve been using my crossbody chanel so black mini chevron reissue or Hermes mini Della cavalleria (crossbody, outside pocket, inside pocket) and room for card case, IPhone, sanitizer, WF collapsible bag and mask. I have a craie DC in epsom and I’m thinking of gettting another one. At lunch. I spilled tiramisu on the DC flap, and it just WIPED off. Tonight I used a TPM Evelyne for just a card case and phone. When traveling, I use a mini Loewe puzzle or a men’s ergonomic crossbody Dior saddle (no hardware). those simple cross body bags can hang on my person or sit on my lap with a napkin over them.

I don’t have a 25 kelly but I do have a croc chaine d’ancre bag that kind of serves that purpose. I almost never wear it. I’m thinking about a 25 Birkin simply bc I favor the Birkin a bit more, and bc I’m part of the group of TPFers that firmly belive that mini bags can make your butt look larger. . .

+1 with @hermesgeek’s concise explanation on opening and closing :)

re the query on how long to get a 28 or 25, presumably it takes much longer to get a 25, but IMO it depends on your relationship with your SA and your location. In some parts of the world, pre spend is king. In NYC currently, bags are scarce, but there are exceptions.
