I wear a lot of darker-wash jeans, but there are some bags I just won't wear when I wear jeans because I'm so paranoid about color transfer. I usually wind up just choosing a cheaper bag (especially if I want a crossbody!) or being reaaaallllly careful with a nicer bag. Is there anyone who's got this figured out?

I LOVE dark denim! :hbeat:
When sporting dark jeans, I mostly carry either:
- a dark bag
- a hobo or tote that doesn't reach my jeans
- a nylon or canvas bag that I can wash.
I also like long shirts and tops, so that helps to keep color transfer at bay as well.

If you condition leather bags, the conditioner makes it less prone to transfer and easier to remove in the event it does occur.

Thanks for the tip!

I haven't had any issues so far. But, as I think about it, I haven't really worn my lighter bags with dark jeans -
Mainly because I tend to wear lighter bags in spring / summer and only wear jeans when it's cold in the winter. Now that this thread is causing me to think about it, I'm going to becareful with my lighter bags.

Good advice, and definitely weatherproof spray your bags! I do that with all my light bags now. And carry wet wipes so you can clean off stains before they set! And a magic eraser if you are paranoid.

But the safest thing is just to carry darker bags.

Remember, there is no brand or superior leather that is safe. Megs has a blog entry on how she got denim dye transfer on her white Chanel boy. I think Chanel took care of that problem for her (phew!) but not all of us will have access to such good aftercare for our bags.

I'm definitely braver wearing lighter bags when I'm also wearing longer shirts/jackets, but I should look into some shorter-strapped hobos and totes--good idea!

I only carry dark bags with very dark jeans. Actually, most of my bags are pretty dark. Light colored bags scare me. I'm terrified of ruining them.

I have a few cheap light-colored bags that I'm comfortable risking, but I keep thinking there must be a better way!

Oooh, good to know. I have a yellow leather bag I might have to start testing this on.

I'm a big fan of conditioning all of my bags as I tend to be absent-minded. It helps prevent scratches and water damage too. It's not a magic cure all, but it stops me from having to be neurotically protective of my bags when I'm out and about.

Yep yep me too! I have to sometimes choose between wearing denim or wearing light coloured bags. That was a big dilemma and I cannot give up denim. So I now favour dark coloured bags, it doesn't mean I have to sacrifice quality designer.
