Customs Question

They use FedEx, which is considered pretty reliable. Maybe that's why it's not insured? I am sure you can ask them for insurance, but you'll pay Customs duties, etc.

Then you have to declare the true value of the bag which is on the outside of the package.

If you insure for $5000 but put a value on the package of $50, the post office could refuse to accept it.

OK, How spooky is this?

My DH has just surprised me with a small gift from luxury zurich and you are right on the packaging it has bee declared as having a very small value (compared to the actual cost of the goods) however he did pay to insure it, so how would that have worked if the goods had not turned up? I take it we would only have been able to claim the value stated on the package?

In Europe you can write whatever value you want on the customs declaration but can still insure for a greater value as customs label is a seperate label from the insurance, unlike in the US where they have to match up.

You may also find that LZ self insure because the items they send are such high value they may not be able to get full cover from their courier

^^^ If it had got lost, it would be up to Luxury-Zurich to claim the refund, since the package was sent by them to you. If you never received the item, they would have to refund you your money.

I also know of eBay resellers who purchase insurance from an external source, which does not involve the the courier company. Perhaps they do something similar.

I think they do purchase the insurance separately, as the buy price is inclusive of Fed-ex delivery to wherever and you have the choice to purchase extra insurance if your item is over a certain amount. At least that is what happened when I bought something from them - fab service BTW. I'm sure you could ask them what the procedure is. Which bag are you thinking of getting - there is a lovely Rosy on there ATM :graucho:

I would just like to add that my DH said the service from LZ was fantastic especially the communication during and after purchase. The good arrived just as described and securely packaged. I would definately use them again, I was just a little concerned about the customs and insurance values, thanks to all for their comments regarding this.

^^ So it's not insured?? Yikes!!

VanillaSkye, I have bought from Pete/Mario before and I can speak from experience. Many customers have asked them to under-declare their items, so as to avoid taxes/customs. I hardly think it's their default way of doing things. I have had bags sent to be with insurance, and I had paid GST on them.

They are not bad guys.

And fabulous service all the time.
