Customs probelms when ordering H bag from abroad?

2manybags, this sounds like normal formalities to me.
Unfortunately courier companies and freight forwarders are not the best to return calls.
They need some answers from you and you might have to pay duty but you pay the forwarder and they do the legwork for you.
I don't know where you are but often it is total pot luck. I have shipped furniture, paintings and little bits and pieces.
I have had expensive artwork arrive at my door without warning and no duty to pay and I have paid duty on pillowcases declared as luxury items.
Be patient, they will contact you. They don't want your parcel in storage longer than necessary.
Fingers crossed. Have a glass of wine! (Unless it is early morning where you are) :smile1:

^^Tell me about it. A few times, the courier left packages outside my apartment door when I was not at home to receive it. At one time, one of my packages went missing :cursing:.

They just don't have sense of responsibility.

^ I was told that requirement of SS#, card, is new. I was required to fax a copy of mine (front and back) to DHL. I asked if I could sub my passport and they said nope, SS card.

I'm happy to report an update....

I finally got in touch with the Fed-ex broker and he told me that they needed my SS# for customs reasons before they could release the package. I was extremely nervous giving it out, but he gave me all his information and told me I could call Fedex directly on my own to to confirm this procedure. I gave the number and they released the package....I just received it about an hour ago!! My first birkin arrived, 35 cm, Rouge H, chevre, gold hardware! I will post a reveal as soon as I get my hands on a camera and find someone to put the pictures up (as I'm computer illiterate when it comes to this stuff). Thank you everyone for your help and support. I'm still in shock that I own a Birkin!!

^^ Tell me about it! H*** if I knew where the thing was but finally found it. I really didn't want to fax it but Buster said it was required (and he was literally holding the bag). Wonder what the protocol is for a person over here on a visa, or who lost it.

^Congratulations!!! I am so happy it turned out to be simple!!!!

Update on my bag, it has been 2 weeks and I have not gotten a bill for duty yet from DHL. I wonder how long it takes, maybe they aren't going to charge me:lawl: ........doubtful.

Congratulations! I am glad the wait is over.
I didn't know about the new rules but I am sure it is for the same reason our shoes get x-ray'd in the airport when we travel. There are some bad people out there.
Looking forward to a photo of your new bag

I did various searches and could not come up with the info, tho' it is probably on tpf somewhere - what exactly is the % fee for customs, based on the item price? This is coming into the USA. Thx!
