Thanks luckylove, Mindi B, xiangxiang and hotshot - well, I also didn't have the resolve to reject the necklace - LOL - I have very weak will when it comes to Hermes!!

I'm not sure how I can effectively move to another SA without it being awkward. But then that's not the only boutique I shop at, I have other options - I do have a home store, which I very much prefer except they are not as well-stocked normally.

Funny right, if it wasn't H, I would have just said - I'm never going to get another thing from that store!!! There are other choices in this world! :p

luckylove - I'm interested to hear what happened to you at another store - if you don't mind sharing? did that SA charge-send things without asking as well?

Every SA has a day off... I would go into H at my convenience & just
see if another SA is there that you would be happy to work with

If your SA left the store or was on vacation for 2 weeks, you would go
in & find another SA if you needed an item.. more or less the same principle applies here.

You don't seem to be comfortable after this incident, why would you be
vulnerable to this SA in the future

Remember, you are the client & you should do what is best for you..

I agree! I don't see why the paying client should alter their shopping pattern or feel awkward because of bad behaviours of SAs. Keep the necklace since you like it but I would find another SA to work with in that boutique. She sounds really pushy and I'd hate to having to work with someone like that. But that's just me. You should do whatever you feel comfortable with of course.

When SA's in general take liberties especially with a client's credit card, for me,
that is just unacceptable especially without a phone call or some type of message
(e-mail, text)

I have a SA that I work with in NM.. She has my card on file & she knows
if she can't reach me she can always send something out to me on approval.
She pretty much knows my taste & for many years we have done well.
But she always finds the moment for an e-mail or a phone call to let me know
something is on its way to me.

I appreciate that respect & courtesy. Relationships with SA's are built on
trust....

I think you handled the whole matter perfectly, from questioning the SA to cancelling the card. She had NO business keeping your card info and NO business charging your card without your prior, specific approval. It does sound like she was trying to make some sort of in-house monthly sales target, which is not okay. I would also have taken the necklace, as it was something you had requested and waited for, but avoiding this SA from now on is definitely in your best interests. At best, she is careless; at worst, untrustworthy. Hope you enjoy your new jewelry, though!

Totally agree.

Agree. I prefer my SAs to keep my cc information so they can take care of me more readily. If they use it improperly, my cc company protects me.

I would not feel comfortable knowing my credit card information is kept other than in a secured system. CC information got leaked and fraud committed all the time and I don't want another place this could potentially happen. How can the SA be sure the CC information is secure? She can't. Notebook could be left unattended and could be stolen. Although most CC company will give you money back in most of the circumstances, but in most of the CC T&C they state that if they can prove you have not be careful with CC details, they don't have to pay you back at all.

It's the same type of clause in say a home insurance policy. If you go out without locking your front door properly and thief enters your house and steals things, the insurance company may not accept your claim because you are supposed to lock your front door before you go out. It's all written in your contract.

I definitely didn't like her excuse of having my info in her notebook. That made it worse. I know at Vuitton, they had it on a specific document and assured me that the information will be kept in a secure place with all similar documents for their clients, not carted around in a notebook.

I believe LV keeps it in locked safe and permission to use expires every 30-60 days at least at my boutique. Still feeling annoyed that your SA seemed to be looking out for her own needs/quota rather than yours! You handled the situation just right!

Exactly! The information should be in a secured place with safety measures. And your SA's charge is unauthorised.

Yep xiangxiang - technically the charge IS unauthorized. I don't even know why she did that except to have the sale in by the end of the month. Surely she knew this action won't go down well with any client!

I have to say everytime I order something, I usually take it, so she knew I would have authorized the charge if she had called later like I told her to - when I got back from my trip. There is never any doubt that I would get that necklace. But she jumped the gun anyway.

I wouldn't be pleased either, and like Martiniandlace said - instincts are usually right.

In the world of 'non' Hermes card details are rarely kept, I know I've tried to do this in the past and have been told they're not kept for security reasons, which although irksome is grudgingly accepted.

Actually I think many (most?) boutiques keep cc's on file if a person has shopped there before. I very often walk out the door without my cc and sometimes I visit boutiques not intending to buy anything, but just to see what's new. Occasionally, I find something I really want and my SA's have always offered to charge it to a card they have on file. Mind you most of these boutiques never asked to keep my cc - the exception being Prada. By the way, the first time this happened to me was at TSE way back in 2002 so it's not a new phenomenon. I find Hermes is actually unusual in that they often require the customer to be physically present during purchase.

However, an SA charging something without your consent is way out of line.

I'm ok with the boutiques keeping the CC numbers for quick processing. We all know we cannot wait to get our goodies most of the time :p

But I think the storage needs to be secure and not carried around in a notebook that one might write the clients' wishlists or something. That's just not the way.
