Covid and wallets

Many places here in Florida still take cash (not that I always have it) but sometimes it comes in handy. My mom always taught me to have some “pin money” or a little stash. You just never know! I try to keep a twenty on me. Plus my younger son will always ask for cash at the last minute for school. I love long wallets and I hate folding bills. When I carry my really small purses I do usually fold my bills even though it’s irritating. I use my Empreinte key pouch for gift cards and my cles for keys. I still have a lot of large bags and wallets - I’m hoping one day to use them again. But, who knows? :(

To answer your question, the short answer is - personally for me, yes.

I have been using my YSL card holder everyday for the past 2 months, instead of my long wallet. I bought the card holder last year, but have never used it until the pandemic hit. I don't use cash much now. All I really need are my cards.

With only 2 months of use, my YSL card holder's red leather's colour came off (instead of the entire card holder being red, now it has grey dots). Anyway, that is a whole another story :yucky:.

Personally I've been using more cash than ever before. Because I've been tipping delivery people. And buying things from neighbors on Nextdoor (mostly sporting goods because we can't go to the gyms, but also gardening things because I'm spending more time outside). No one wants checks. So my wallet is often stuffed with old-fashioned $1's and $5's and I'm often wishing I had a bigger wallet.

Germany is, irritatingly, a cash economy. But we are already seeing the effects of Covid. For example my local cafe, that only accepted card payments as from 10 eur (very common here), now does for everything.
That makes me happy as I have always hated wallets. I carry an Hermes Calvi, which is perfect, and if I am taking cash or expecting coins, I take a key/coin pouch.

The only times I touch cash are when I'm using foreign currency. Abroad, I alternate between a Goyard pouch and a Kelly long wallet that fits my passport and paper money, but I stopped using proper wallets domestically about 7 years ago. Other than when I travel, I need cash exactly twice a year for tips when I get my haircuts. That's it. For at least ten years I've been using an LV vernis key pouch as a physical wallet and catchall for keys and fobs, and I opt for ApplePay for nearly everything these days.

Since I am not carry a bag right now, my go to is a wallet that I can slip in my pants pocket like a traditional man’s wallet. (Honestly, gendered leather goods *sigh*)
So I have been using a zip around silk in! It’s perfect!

I definitely think over time we will see a change because of it. Here while places do accept cash, debit or credit is preferred and signage states as much.

I recently switched to a mini bag so i am back into nothing but a card holder, i am loading up my phone with the surplus cards.

I started using only my LV key pouch in March when I had to go out for groceries. Months later, I have just begun using a couple of my bags again. I always saw the key pouches as useless (love my leather Empreinte LV wallets and Chanel wallet!) until I got into the groove of using one. So easy...fits right in the pocket.

I just purchased a new one in LV Damier Azur to use during Spring/Summer as I have found it so useful. But I think I'll always love wallets. I like the full-size ones for my larger bags.

I’ve been using LV’s Coin Card Holder for several months until I switched back to LV Emilie, full sized wallet. I still carry cash but I wash my change with soap and water as soon as I reach home. Several denominations are in plastic material, so that’s fine. Other larger ones are unfortunately paper, so I just have to be gentle. The notes usually look and feel brand new after drying. Too bad I can’t iron them

Personally, I have always used a long wallet and a small durable coin&cards purse. I still carry both now but I tend to put essential cards & just a little bit of cash in the small coin/card holder so that I don’t need to take out the long wallet unless necessary.

I bought this coin/card holder back in February and have been finding it very useful. And I don’t need to worry about wiping it since it’s not leather :amuse:

As much as I would like to pare down my wallet and use a cardholder, I still carry cash on me. You never know when there might be a power outage or banks get hacked and credit card terminals are down. Cash is always king.
It funny, the other times I went to McDonald’s drive through. I always come at times when the card reader is down And they said they will only take cash at the time being. So it best to carry cash on you just in case!
