It has happened throughout time for iconic bags, The Chanel inspired bags date back to when the bags first became popular. You can find very old vintage fake Chanels... Variations of the Jackie hobo was carried by almost every woman. Same for the Gucci Boston bag, Fendi baguette etc...

I do think it crosses the line when it is an outright copy, like Steve Madden and the Falabella or Guess's copy of Gucci's monogram.

I agree w/ the you on that one! And replicas made of god knows what kind of material...

Just take a look at Michael Michael Kors bags - they're all there; Luggage, Trio, GST, Marc Jacobs backpack. Kors doesn't bother to design anything. He just rips off others.

DKNY has also just about taken the Chanel quilted 2.55 over, Gansevoort series is pretty much based on Chanel designs. Despite this, I still love DKNY.

And yes, I'm with you all on the whole "leggings are not pants" issue!

Yeah, at Macys I saw an MK bag that looked straight up like the LV cappuccine bags. Of course instead of LV, it said MK... I personally don't mind but sometimes MK does a little too much biting off other ideas :thinkin:

MK gets bashed for it most, but he hardly comes close to standing alone with it. Bottom line? Most of the designs came from somebody and quite a few were never actually owned or firstly created by the person/brand it gets related to anyways.

Heck i just realized today how much a D&B zip zip looks like the one LV lol sorry didn't know and frankly still don't care.

Just this past weekend did i only finally get into my first area to see half the bags shown and spoke about here.. pandoras, RM, full range of LC(and yet i own some of this brand lol) and even Bals and so many more..

Point being to this ramble is.. if it's not something i can even buy let alone see in person how would i know it's a copy? i buy legitimate brands so i feel no guilt in my choices, and honestly i don't think i am alone in this.. most don't have a clue as donut said it's hardly comparable when your buying a bag in the hundreds to worry whether a bag in the thousands looks the same... :p

My mom found that same D&B in the brown/caramel color with red interior. TBH I used that bag religiously! I didn't know it resembled the Alma until a couple weeks after but it didnt matter to me either cause, you can fit a whole lot of stuff in that zip zip lol! Plus D&B is great quality.

You're right! There are so many silhouettes and designs that its so hard to keep track of. Some designs are popular and I haven't heard of them, lol

Zips zips are great! I -almost- bought one over the summer but opted for a less structured alternative. It's all about what works for each of us, and at our comfort zone for price.:smile1:

I hear of a lot because of here but in real life only see a splatter of what exists, honestly though where you are plays a role too.. for some areas channel is "common" and unexciting lol.

I also bought a Dooney Florentine and love it. Wasn't until later that I saw it looked like a Miu Miu. Won't make me give it up. The color is gorgeous, and the all-weather leather can't be beat. Besides, I've heard that Miu Miu's quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Pretty much! What people will perceive as common will change drastically between shoppers at the Bay and those at Holt Renfrew. (Canadian example)

It's not like everyone is on TPF or a subscriber to Vogue, so a lot of the time between will unknowingly be purchasing a "copy". However, we also can't ignore the incentive for companies to produce affordable versions of recognizable products in order to ride on their coat tails.

Holts was where i was lol, got to see and poke a whole bevy of brands. Also went into LC... despite owning some just had not had the time to make it in to the actual store.

Anyways, as for the secondary, it's tough though, the Fashion world always er..borrows? from each other, unless were talking counterfeit goods(which i will insert i saw the worst LV fake(so i mean intended to fool, right down to LV written on it) bag recently.. i leave it up to the companies to sort with their legal crews when it's gone to far.

As a consumer, i am not going to research every bag i buy to ensure it is not enhanced by another, nor check into the history on who came first..(sounding like the chicken & the egg debate lol) . I just stick to legitimate brands and ones i like.

People do stuff.
It's the universal constant.
I'm too busy waggling my judgy finger @ people who wear tights as actual pants.
If they want to carry the forever 21 version of a chanel reissue, but stop flaunting their wiggly bits in public, go team!

This^^^^ !!!!! What is up with not needing to wear pants!?

Honestly though a lot of bags that are out now look the same as every other bag, especially the structured bags with wings.

I'd never noticed this before, either. The Florentine is a nice looking bag. I've heard the same about Miu Miu. I generally love their designs, though.
