Has this happened to any bag lovers? Where you just completely stop caring about bags or buying that next one on your wish list? I am going through a total minimalist phase and really only have two things left on my wish list they are both jewellery and I’m pleased they don’t take up much room. I have minimised to seven bags and a rucksack. I have one up for sale. I want to minimise to 5-6 maximum and then just don’t feel like spending anymore time/money on this. Has anyone gone through this? Is this only happening because I’m in a jewellery phase right now? Any views on this?

I went two years w/o buying a bag when we were remodelling our home
Since then I've bought a few but I'm more selective than my early years on PF. Buying mostly preloved bags that I'm looking for rather than buying something at BNM store

I am a mercurial widget.
And have ~2 year fads.
Bags gave way to baseball.
Then cycling.
Now I kinda like knives.
God only knows what crazy will envelop my brain next.

Still use bags I own. And look at/admire others.
But any sort of "gotta:nuts: own" fizzed out for now.
Of course, this did not prevent me from lurking around car lots & fiddling with new models.
Is hopeless. Will find something fun & spendy, bags or no.
Meh.:shrugs:

Not interested in having a wish list and not interested in spending money on bags. I do still love bags but I'm not obsessed with them anymore.

A little over a year ago I started to look at my collection with a more critical eye and also started to think more about what I needed instead of just randomly buying things I wanted.

I'm downsizing my collection all the time, I have a few bags for sale and while I don't think I'm ever going to have a capsule collection of under 10 bags I hope I can downsize a bit more. I think I'm down to around 30 bags&backpacks at the moment and that's a lot less than what I had a couple of years ago.

Yup, I went through this. After multiple moves and having to edit my bags, I just got tired of it and didn't pur chase a new bag for almost 10 yrs. Problem with this though, I kind of had pent up demand and bought 3 bags in 2 months recently. I think moderation is key for me. I've decided 1 bag a year and/or buy one sell one policy going forward.

I’ve been on an insane bag buying spree lately and feeling very overwhelmed with how many bags I’ve accumulated over the last few years. I’ve reached the stage where I have a better understanding of my needs/likes, and still have a wish list  I wish I could go off bags completely! But I don’t see that happening. I am starting to donate or sell those that do not fit my needs, and I’ve sold 5 on eBay in the past 2 weeks so that feels good! Of course I used that money to buy some Massaccesi bags since he opened up some final leathers to order. Anyhow, interesting post, I will watch it and hope all the folks who are slowing down the purchases will rub off on me!

Me. I decluttered and sold most of my bags and left with the premiere bags I love the most - Balenciaga black with silver hardware in Velo, Town and Hip. And a Givenchy Pandora. A Saint Laurent clutch for dressier occasions. And some Rebecca Minkoff love crossbody bags that, when I use them, make me realize all I want is a Chanel Boy bag. But I can't afford it.

I have been saving for a bag and I actually have the money for an LV/Saint Laurent but I can't seem to pull the trigger on it, thinking this is already 1/3 of the price of Chanel Boy! lol.

This happened to me! I think it's due to a couple reasons, some practical, some emotional, some inexplicable! I've loved fashion since I was a teen, but I got into bags about 4 years ago and onto TPF about 3 years ago. A lot has changed in that time, which is totally natural!

  1. I have finally run out of bag storage space. When you can physically see a literal overflow of bags, you realize you have waaaay more than enough!
  2. I am lucky enough to have bought a couple of my HGs, I've bought a couple of alternatives to my out-of-reach HGs, plus I've bought many practical bags that should cover pretty much any need that arises. There's a couple of gaps, but I'm not as hungry to fill them as when I started in the beginning with no bags.
  3. I've found other ways to divert my emotion and energy, whereas before I was stressed and vented through online shopping.
  4. I've increased my savings by 10% in order to better prepare for returning to school. When I was lucky enough to not have significant financial burdens, it was easy to shop, but now I think, "This could buy my $xxx textbooks or help pay my moving costs."
  5. I'm straight up just a little bored! I guess it's a combination of all the reasons listed above, but I'm not on the hunt for any bags. I just want to tick a couple more bags off the list I made when I was really bag-crazy before I go on a bag ban while I'm a full-time student, but I definitely don't even find myself online shopping for more new bags nearly as much.

Good points everyone thanks for sharing.

I think my main issue is that they were starting to feel like burdens. They needed storage space and I needed to baby them when out. Then I worried about theft and being a target. I’ve realised the less the better. I kind of miss the days when I just had one main use bag and an evening clutch. I keep thinking I could do that again if it was with my holy grails but realistically they would not get used that much in normal day to day life.

I stopped buying premier bags when I realized that they don't fit my lifestyle anymore. I'm more outdoorsy and spend a lot of my free time hiking or doing other things with my dog.

Also, my love of bags started when I was much younger and more self conscious. I spent a lot of time keeping up with friends and celebrities, who were probably gifted their goods in the first place.

Yes, I am pretty much the same. Haven’t bought a bag in a while and more obsessed with jewelry. I agree with other posters that too many bags feels like a burden. Takes up too much space and needs maintanence and care to keep them in good condition. Jewelry is much easier! I am really into the current trends for jewelry and there are more options than before for fine jewelry in that middle space between super fancy/luxury and super boring/ugly like no name department/mall store stuff.

Pretty much down to 1 or 2 bags once a year for the last 3 years ad had sold off quite a few that were just taking up space.

For me it's not about the burden of them but liking and focusing on what I have. I love my bags not just bags in general or the next one. When people complement my 8 y o bag (recently) I know it's because of the bag itself and not because it's a fashionable trophy,. That feels like a sincere compliment.
