You're right! The SO is more matte! I see that in the pictures! Good observation! I'm on the list for this too and super excited! Was scared at first coz it's grained lambskin but looks like it'll hold up well, is the leather softer?

Funny as I did the exact same as you yesterday : returned my untouched 17P caviar / RHW for the so black !!
I was not a big fan of the "shinny" finish on the 17P caviar and it looked too delicate for a caviar. The so black leather is more mate and in my opinion seems more durable !!
The only thing I am afraid of is the chipping of the black coating on the chains as I plan to use this bag everyday and don't want to baby it (this still second guessing my exchange... :/)
No, my boy didn't chip but I read several threads on TPF where people experienced the leather chipping on their 17P shiny caviar boy. It worried me so it was one of the reasons I returned mine.
Congrats on your new boy as well! I agree that the leather on the SO boy seems more durable. I worry about the chipping of the hardware too but it's so beautiful that I am able to look past that fear. I really love it and I hope you enjoy yours too!
Same Here !! Still haven't been able to use it today as I was not too sure about my decision, but I think I will stick to it !!
Also the SA told me that if ever I was starting to notice some chipping on the black coating, I should return the bag to a chanel store so they can change the chain for a new one !!
