Cocktail Ring as Engagement Ring?

I'd wait for the pink cushion as you might love that, but between these 2 options I would suggest the solitaire as I like e-rings to still have a timeless look.

The cocktail ring is absolutely gorgeous! I say go for it!

-ITA - I love 'different' pieces, and if you don't think you get tired of it (and if you do, you can get a different one later). I'd love to see it with a band next to it. I think it is very special. I would wear it (not that I am the height of fashion chic, LOL)

I've seen just as or even more so 'blingy' traditional e-rings that didn't do a thing for me. This one does.

Thanks, everyone, for your input!

I agree that this ring is rather flashy and may be better as a right hand ring. However, for Valentine's Day, I received a tiny cluster ring (http://tinyurl.com/yca26bd) and I've been wearing that on my right hand. I don't think I'll continue to wear this ring regularly if I go with the cocktail ring as an ering. In addition, I'm here in "the OC" where I see a regular variety of flashy rings. :p

I think I really love the cocktail ring and all its uniqueness partially because if I'm going the high-end De Beers route, I should go for something unique, but I worry that people might talk me out of it (you know) and make me feel bad that I'm opting for something bigger and unusual. I'm not worried I'll organically fall out of love with it; I'm worried that I'll be a lemming and be talked out of it and this is a very expensive purchase!

As far as band are concerned, I tried on several with it so I can make sure it'll accomodate one and I'm thinking of going with this one (http://tinyurl.com/y89yn49) which is SUPER thin. It won't sit flush but kind of fits underneath the floral setting so it's visible from the side. What do you think?

I'm definitely waiting to see the pink diamond ring before making a decision, although they won't get it in until June or July. That being said, we definitely have a budget and I doubt we'll get a good quality/nice size one at our budget.

Now, I'm curious about the VCA ring! :D Which one is it?

That cocktail ring is gorgeous, I personally wouldnt wear it as an e ring but as a day-night going out ring as for me it would get in the way when I was at work but if you can see yourself wearing it as an e ring and you love it then go for it!!!

My sister have something similar, sometimes looks like she is not engaged but just wearing a ring on that finger. I love her ring, but her fiance complain sometimes she picked something that doesn't scream TAKEN!!!! How does yours feel about jewelry? Would he be secretly disappoint not to get you traditional ring? I think pink but solitaire could be unique and more traditional - best of both. Just something to consider, but both are beautiful :D

It's interesting that you said that because when I was flipping through In Style Wedding last winter, he was the one who zeroed in on this cocktail ring and said, "Wow, that one is pretty." He knew that it was one of their picks for an e-ring. When we went in together to look at all the rings, he claimed he liked both and it's up to me. He felt that the cocktail wasn't as sparkly as the RB BUT that was a G+/VS+ and we may be able to get an F/VS1 & VS2 cluster instead which would be sparklier presumably.

Originally, I wanted something super plain and simple. :p I was happy with an 0.7 RB solitaire, no upgrades. He wanted something bigger, flashier and more ornate, though not necessarily unusual.

What are the reactions to your sister's ring from other people?

She gets compliments from other women but I think people don't know she is engaged. Maybe that was the only finger that fit her ring or something... but everyone think its pretty. You need to get what you love and are comfortable with. Just remember that you include fiance now and better know what he thinks too because I think sis has fought with hers over this :( Also, sounds like your first wish was something simple, fiance wanted something bigger but still traditional and now you are looking at a complicated cocktail ring... so you change your wish because of him, but this was not his wish so now neither of you have your first wish?
