Yes, super easy! I’ve used this for a decade on saddle stirrup leathers (which are same as leather bag straps), belts, etc.
Punch holes in some practice leather to get an idea of exactly how the holes look (size especially). Measure & mark center of desired hole with a small pen mark, so you’re happy with end result.

Our Gucci and Nordstrom both have offered to punch holes for me if I need it. I have a leather punch I bought off Amazon and so I just do it myself. I practice on an old leather strap I have so I get the hole size right. I use an eyeliner pencil to mark my hole (I can wipe it off easily if I’m wrong or there’s an overlap where I marked it once the hole is punched). I’ve punched holes for my friends’ bags as well as Gucci belts and an Hermès belt. So far so good. That hole puncher is probably the best ~$10 I’ve spent on Amazon.
