Coach selling used bags?!

I cannot believe Coach is selling used bags that you can get on Ebay for much, much cheaper - WTH? I have a duffle in pristine condition I bought 30 years ago and would not be able to sell it for $100 but Coach is asking hundreds? I really do not get it!
I almost bought one this morning, and I've given away many of these bags. I think it's the nostalgia and knowing it's in good condition and authentic. I can't explain why I want the triple dinky though;)

I don't understand. I went to Coach site and didn't see any used bags?

Well you see that they advertise the Restored Willis top-handle next to their new ones, the Restored Dinky next to the new ones, the Restored Duffle 20 next to the new ones...

I think they're trying to illustrate that the styles are heirloom-type quality and design. If someone loves it and wants to buy a piece of history, great (they are more expensive than the new versions). Otherwise I don't think they lost too much as they seem to be one-offs, and is good storytelling for the brand.

Aka, marketing . . . They did a promo marketing vintage back a few years. Made it a whole western Americana thing. Google Coach on YouTube. The video is still there.

I made the same comment on the Coach fall/winter chat! It's not like these are unused bags. Presumably they bought the bags back, paid someone to refurbish and are selling them again 20+ years later for much more.

Rehabbers have been buying used vintage bags on eBay for years and it's way less money.

I've also noticed vintage bags seem to be especially pricey online this year and I wonder if this is why.

I'm a bit insulted by the remixed bags. It's a nice concept if the bags were in rough shape. It's good for the planet to reuse and repurpose. But it seems to me that they took what appear to be nice vintage bags and destroyed them into one single bag. If the bags had areas that were destroyed before I would get it but that doesn't appear to be the case. They are probably also heavy as hell as it's essentially a bunch of full leather bags in one.

I'm super disappointed in this collection :/

Also I don't think this bag was even called Dinky. Isn't it 9755 (pocket purse?) and usually is on eBay for well under $100

Yeah, it looks like those are indeed pocket purses. I pulled out two of mine to double check the measurements I get, compared to the measurements the coach site lists. Where they get 6.5 inches for height, I get more like 6, but they might be flattening it more than I do while measuring.

I gotta admit, I'm .... surprised? Is that even the word I want? And for a multitude of reasons. :shrugs:

One good thing though, is that it's shown me exactly how my daughter has matured. When I was doing my rehabs, wayyyy back in 2009 when I first joined up here, daughter was all of about seven years old, and was quite unimpressed with my vintage Station bags, pocket purses, basic bags, etc. The only one she liked was my red Quincy because it's bright, vivid red. None of them were the pink she craved. A few years ago, she started asking to use my Quincies and pocket purses more often. Now when I showed her coach's site this evening, she's like, "Woah! I like ours better!". Good girl.

What I wish they would do is create a storehouse and sell refurbished straps and hang tags from bags that couldn't be saved. Wouldn't it be great to find a new, longer strap (like from an old Willis) to use with the pocket purse? As a person who is 5'10" tall, the crossbody straps on most vintage bags are too short. And how many times have I seen a beautiful bag on Ebay that is missing the strap?
