You ladies are so much better than I am...

I was almost conned into buying a "real" coach bag in mexico...for about $70 USD

Thanks to my bf who said, do you really need another purse, I put it down.

I always thought that if it had the price tags and coach tags that they would be real...wow I'd be scared to buy anything not from a coach store after i read this thread!!!

You don't have to be scared, but you DO have to be extremely cautious. There are some excellent sellers on Ebay and Bonanzle who deal only in genuine Coach but you really need to have us look at anything you're thinking of bidding on - post the listing number or URL in the Coach Shopping - Authenticate This Coach thread. And don't buy or bid on impulse, like with that great Mexican "deal". If something looks too good to be true, it almost always IS.

And always use common sense. Coach and almost all other designer bag makers ONLY sell to their own stores and to major retailers like Macy's, Nordies, Dillard's, etc. They do NOT sell to independent internet sites, purse parties, small "boutiques", hair salons, wholesalers of any kind including known or suspected Ebay or other auction site sellers, guys who sell them out of the trunk of thir cars at golf courses, flea market sellers or Mexican street vendors. And they don't sell "seconds" to internet wholesalers either.

The Answers To Authenticity Questions thread has a lot of really good advice:

My post 256 has some advice for new Ebay buyers about the common red flags you should be aware of:

I love coach, but you know after perusing this thread--I hate to say it but some of these fakes are no more ugly than many of the factory bags at the Coach outlets. In fact, a couple of the designs are more attractive that many factory bags.

Beyond fugly are those factory crossover bags with web handles or any coach bag with the signature mosaics--ick. The very idea of ANY authentic coach having a web handle is just gross.

Coach should really reconsider offering those fugly factory bags if they want to stop the forgers. Its really hard to tell the difference between the two on someone walking by on the street.

I happen to like some of those crossover bags, but I'm not buying them as "comps" to my classic leather Coaches. I'm buying them as tongue-in-cheek humor at what Coach is doing just to sell merchandise. Plus they're loud, they don't take themselves seriously (or I don't!) and at the outlet prices they're in almost the same price range as a LeSportsac but made a lot better. Who said all your purses have to be serious? I'd rather pay $100 for a decently made Coach Scribble or Graffiti bag that will hold up a lot longer than an LS or even a Vera Bradley in the same price range.

JMO, of course.
