Note in the listing she states the bag has been authenticated by Carol Diva!

I promise to update with a followup if I get a response from Carol. (I wrote to her.)

Generally, Carol doesn't authenticate newer bags and although she's made mistakes in the past, if she did indeed authenticate these two bags, she might as well hang it up!
Well, this is scary!! This person is someone whose opinions help to make the decision between buyers' and sellers' claims of authenticity/non-authenticity.

I did get a response from Carol and .......um, ah.....well, at least she was honest. Unfortunately, I don't think she figured it out herself. I think her about-face was due to the various emails she received.

Hi xxxxxxx,

No, seller wasn't lying. I made a mistake, caught it, and since tried to rectify the situation by talking to the seller and refunding the authentication fee.

Thank you for writing. I really do appreciate it!

Best wishes,
Carol

That's upsetting. I mean, these were blatant fakes. If she were any sort of "authenticator", she'd know this.

Auctions have been pulled at least!

Wow. Im the first to admit that there are a lot of fakes out there that I can't tell are fake. But, I took one glance at this seller's fake Carlys and I knew without a doubt they were fake. I guess people do make mistakes, but this was a doozy in my opinion.

If Carol doesn't have the humility to say "I don't know" when she comes across items or brands with which she isn't familiar, she's going to ruin her reputation.

Not being one to keep my mouth shut (and I've lived to regret it at times), I followed up with another message to her. (I've probably gained an enemy.)

Hi Carol,

I appreciate your honest response and admire your well-earned reputation. That said, I think that if you try to branch out into areas and brands with which you aren't familiar, you will do damage. Unfortunately, those listings were bad enough fakes that those with little knowledge of Coach would recognize.

A good comparison would be that these fakes are as obvious as an LV with oval Os on the made in stamp and the style number stamped as the date code. (I know little about LV except for the most obvious fakes.)

Those of us who spend hours helping to authenticate on various forums and help buyers and sellers in resolving disputes would prefer an ebay-approved authenticator who admits to not knowing than one who authenticates obvious fakes as authentic or vice versa.

Again, I do appreciate your admission of error.

Very well said BB. When I saw the listings yesterday I really thought the seller was lying about Carol just to get the bids. I was mad for Carol about someone using her name and possibly ruining her reputation. I guess at least she admitted she was wrong, but a little too late if you ask me. I'm wondering if she just wasn't quite sure on the bags so let them go through? But then again you didn't have to look long to see they were fake. :confused1:
