Coach Confusion

I too am disappointed with the current styles and fabrications. I'm stuck in Borough-land.

What really bugs me is the continued use of plastic-y leather. I really hope Coach stops doing that.

I agree. I think it's a bit much to charge $100+ for a bag that feels like textured vinyl. The crossbodies in particular are all that fake stuff. It's easily cleaned I guess, but other than that ... meh. At that point I feel like I'm paying more for the name than the product.

The one recent move that I really don't like is the pop-out pouch thing on the crossbodies and clutches. I like to put my cell phone in the small outside zip pockets for easy access, and now that they're pop out ... hell no! Easy way to kiss my phone goodbye!

I'm not a particular fan of the floral prints but hey, someone is and that's fine. Eventually they'll get round to prints that I do like, like the Peyton floral from last spring/summer.

This has me disappointed too. It means there are fewer items I'll consider. I'm considering the drifter because it is made of calf leather. I haven't had a chance to see it IRL so I don't know how nice it is.

Exactly. If not for that, there were styles I was interested in too, but the leather just doesn't live up to it. Considering a tatum tall tote in chalk with the 30%, otherwise I'll sit out and wait for the next floorset. Is it coming out next week?

I miss coach. I started my purse obsession with Coach and I'm not happy to say I'm not loving the current selection. I peruse the store and am sad to see that it's empty; not just devoid of customers, but empty of beautiful bags in every shape, size and color. The last bag I bought was the smythe satchel and I almost never reach for it. The quality is just not what it used to be. I've moved on and am collecting other brands but I'm also patiently waiting for Coach to get back to its former glory.

The complaining about current styles brings to mind the little old lady stuck in whatever decade in dress and style because that's when her life was the best.

Times and generations change and one woman's feast is another woman's poisen. Ya know, it takes a whole big wide world of diversity to make up a buying market.

Move on and come back later when you see a new thing that happens to be just "right up your alley"!!!

To each her own. I've been into Coach for 30+ years and I left when signature ruled their world. I came back with Legacy. Didn't need to bash. I'm not crazy about what is currently out there, but eventually something will show up that I like. In the meantime, I'll continue to look and I will enjoy what I have.

I love the floral styles and I've been buying Coach since 2007.

Once you become a woman "of a certain age" you don't worry about keeping up with all the trends and can buy what you truly love!

I don't find the current Coach line at all like Dooney and Bourke. Maybe some would draw a parallel because of the floral patterned bags, and sometimes Dooney does bags in various patterns? Still don't see a close correlation. At all.

Since Vevers started, I think the designs have gotten a little edgier and the leather a little less lucious, which is a shame because one of the things I've always loved about Coach has been their superior leather quality at reasonable cost. I also like that they're as all-American a brand as you can get (even if made in China, which is unfortunate- wish they'd bring production back State-side).

That said, there are some aspects of the new edginess that I enjoy. For instance, I've acquired a gunmetal Ryder 33 (which has worn like IRON, let me tell you! LOVE this bag!), a large Dakotah (again, love the leather and the fringe reminds me of a fabulous cross between a flapper dress and the classic West- both of which I love), and now a colorblock Swagger in ginger/black metal. I am THRILLED by these bags.

In the past, I have been thrilled by many more bags at Coach simultaneosly. But there is still something for me at this brand, and I won't abandon it preemptively. I have branched out to several additional brands, which have made me happy, though the price for the quality of bag is no comparison to what I have experienced at Coach (and still do, to an extent).

I'm hoping Vevers can turn this brand around and take it back to its roots-- classic design, and above all, gorgeous leather expertly crafted. And at a reasonable price!

I suspect Vevers doesn't have much control over the quality of the leather. Really that is my main complaint these days. It started around the same time that Vevers took over, but since the leather quality of the classics also went downhill, I think he wasn't involved in the decision.
