Long story short, I’m a clueless guy who wants to know the value of handbags that an ex gf left at my place. She moved out of the country and doesn’t want them. I want to sell them. All of the bags are new or used like once. I think she bought one or a few of them on vacation in Paris. I live in USA.

I’m afraid we don’t generally discuss pricing. Your best bet would be to take a look on eBay and/ or some of the resale sites and do some looking around at the various brands you have.

I tried doing that. It’s too hard for me because there are so many models. I figured I can get help here because there are very knowledgeable handbag people here. Are you the person who runs this website? Why do you have to be a buzzkill? Maybe there will be someone who can help me other than you.

Welcome to TPF. I'm not as you put it, trying to be "a buzzkill". There are rules that the forum dictates and we're happy to help with identifying bags and authenticating etc., but we don't generally try to place a dollar value on bags. Too many variables, we can't tell from the photos if the bags are authentic, condition pays a big part, some styles are more popular from season to season, even the colour can makes a difference. All sorts of stuff. You'll actually find we're generally pretty nice people and try to help as much as we can.

Hey @Guyfromusa, welcome! If you Google those brands (Karl Lagerfeld, Furla, Charles Jourdan) they are kind of mid-marketish, and some (Lagerfeld, Jourdan) I see more at designer discount stores - like Saks Off Fifth and Last Call. My individual guess the estimated resale would be under $50ish each.

The Coccinelle is an Italian brand, not too "popular" - meaning widely coveted if that make sense. So I'd expect around the same.

And as muchstuff said, the resale market is taking a huge hit too with coronavirus. You could try to sell them to 2nd hand sites like Thred Up or post on your local Facebook for sale/classified group or Craigslist, but I wouldn't hold my breath for fast sales or to make a lot of money. Sorry.

These aren't high end, you won't get much. The Coccinelle is likely worth the most but a fairly unknown brand. I would just donate them and be done with it, personally. If they were expensive, she would have taken them with her.

They're definitely not high end but they're not worthless. You'd be surprised what sells on Poshmark! I sell my used Coach/Michael Kors/Furla bags for around $60-100. Obviously I don't know anything about these bags or what condition they're in, but there's sometimes a surprising buyer for a bag if you're willing to wait! Could be a couple hundred bucks if they're in good condition, which would be a lot of money to me! Just not now, since recession and all...

I actually think muchstuff was reasonable in their response. For you to demand an immediate answer is ridiculous, along with your rude response. If you're looking for advice I highly recommend dropping the attitude.

Is there actually anything in the rules about not discussing pricing? Asking honestly, not as a snarky question. I feel like I've seen people discuss pricing but maybe I'm mistaken. I understand that authenticators on the forum won't tell you what a "good price" for a bag is or anything, but telling someone generally what you'd list a bag at seems different to me, since it's not encouraging someone to or to not make a purchasing decision. What do you think?

I don’t know if there’s anything in the rules per se but yes, I don’t think you’ll find authenticators recommending selling prices. We certainly don’t on the Bal thread. I honestly don’t know how helpful it is to suggest a value as people will have different ideas of what a bag’s worth. I do agree that there didn’t look to be anything of high value in that mix but I wouldn’t feel comfortable suggesting a selling price as I don’t have familiarity with all of the brands. And even if I did a bag’s only worth what someone’s willing to pay and right now that isn’t much :hrmm:.

Geez, chill.

It is forum etiquette to not discuss this specific topic and topics related to pricing and authenticity.

Considering the brands that you have, these are not premier designer brands. I would say these are more contemporary brands. I would check out and formulate averages for prices items from these brands go for on Poshmark, Ebay, Depop, and some others. To be quite honest though, you might be better off selling them to a Buffalo Exchange or any similar type of resale store local to you.
Good luck!
