Hi All,
I am a new member to TPF but have been following the discussions from the sidelines for years. This is my first post as this is my first luxury purchase!
I purchased this vintage Chanel from a Canadian business specializing in pre-loved luxury handbags a few days ago. I did my homework on the business and everything seems legit. The bags are guaranteed 100% authenticate and have been pre-authenticated prior to sale.
I took the tags off the item, so I technically cannot return it any longer, but she guarantees a lifetime authenticity, so I figured I would just make sure that it is truly an authentic vintage Chanel! I saved for a very long time in order to purchase this item and so want to be sure!
Thanks in advance!
Item name:
- Serial number: 1463995

(it is marked as ‘sold’ because I have already purchased the item)
- Comments:
I am 99% sure it is authentic. The zipper, the chain, the smell, the hardware, serial number and card, the screws, the stamping and the stitching are all correct.
My only concerns are:
1. Is it normal for the leather strap to appear to be 2 pieces of leather that have been ‘bonded’ together. There is no stitching in the leather strap, which is appropriate to the time period. I know modern Chanel straps can be two pieces of leather with an actual break in the leather, however, it is normal that on vintage Chanels the craftsman would use two pieces and bond them, or would they
only ever use one continuous length of leather that is long enough for the entire strap?
2. There is one quilting line on the back that does not line up from the pocket to the purse. This is the only part of the purse where the quilting is off. Again, I know consumers have complained about this in modern Chanel bags, but would this have happened in the 90s? The item is from 1991 so it has had some years on it, and could this have caused a slight deviation in how the pocket lays?
-P.S. I could not take an accurate picture of the serial sticker, but there is a clear picture of it in the link on the website, my apologies.
