Hi everyone,

need help authenticating this beautiful bag:

Someone responded to a similar post I had on ebay saying the bag is fake and I of course was not going to touch the bag, until I got this email from the seller in reponse to my request for authentication with My Poupette:

"I have no problem with authentication but would prefer to use aCartier approved retailer. I will post a document to that effect in the next day or so. I have also given the Certificate Ref No in the details should you have any lingering doubts."

The email regarding it being a fake said this:

"The Cartier bag you were asking about on the purse forum is a fake.A good one, but a fake nevertheless.The company who made them is no longer in business..the were called Twobagladies, and operated in both Europe and the USA.I know this because my daughter bought the same bag.When I saw it I couldn't believe how well made it was.I don't like fakes, but my daughter thought it was beautiful.She paid $220. for it, so it wasn't cheap.Hope this helps you avoid paying a lot of money for a knock-off."

Your observations on the plates are interesting. But there is a lot more to it. To me, none of these auctions showed enough details. There are multiple points needed to tell if a bag is real. These auctions show 30 - 60 % of what I would want to see.

Sorry I am not going into details because there are scammers on the boards. Just keep looking on eBay and take note of the variety of pictures posted in auctions. This will show you the kinds of picture that are needed to determine authenticity. The plates are only one aspect of it. I do own bags with two of those plates and also leather patch bags.

Sorry to ressurect this very old post but I can't seem to find enough information regarding cartier handbags. I purchased a vintage cartier bag today and would like to know how to have it authenticated. I have many many photos.

Are you able to help? or send me in the right direction?

Hi.

I don't know of any services that specifically do Cartier. However, as a vintage collector, who has seen lots of Cartier bags, I am happy to take a look at it and give you a first impression. I'd need to see very good close ups of all the hardware and the made in stamping, plus the rest of the bag. You can PM me if you like.

Alternatively, you take it into Cartier somewhere and ask them to do repairs to it, which would be pricey, but give you a cast iron answer!

I bought this wallet off ebay, the photos in the auction were dark and I didn't had the time to ask the seller for clearer photos... After the auction ended and I won the item, I sent the money to the seller, with a private mssg following, saying that if the item isn't authentic she should not bother to send it to me, because I will open a case and ask for refund. However, the seller didn't respond and she sent the item. It appears to be some old, unused walled (judging from the box) which has stayed in the wardrobe for years. I'm not sure if it is even leather, I will take it to some specialists, who work with leather in bag/shoe factory near my home town to consult with them if this is real leather. (it looks like patent leather though)
Anyway, here are the photos of the wallet and the box. What do you think? Any opinion is appreciated! Thank you!

The colors may not appear absolutely correct, because I took the photos on light from the night lamp :) I want to add something that I have noticed - on the press studs is imprinted TMO UK PAT 2063343. On the smaller press studs inside is written HATO HASI (which doesn't sound very authentic to me)... But the hope that the wallet is old and even vintage and authentic doesn't leave me ;)

Dear shinymagpie, happy boxing day. Would you be able to help me authenticate a few cartier bags that I found on eBay? 3 of them are vintage must de cartier and one marcello de Cartier. 1 insufficient photographs to comment
2 looks consistent with other authentic Cartier I have seen from this era.
3 I don't know this era well enough to comment.
4 the bag looks promising I'd like to see the "made in" stamp on the bag. - I can't comment on any of the accessories & the photos of the little pouch are not clear enough to see details.

This is my personal view as an owner of vintage Cartier items. I hope it is useful.
