I have just purchased a Cartier wallet from Ebay item #110436767058 as an authentic wallet. it does not feel like a Cartier, and I am not sure how to authenticate it, I would be great if someone out there can refer an authentication source.

Best Regards,
Nathan

Hi.
I just saw your post. I think you should take a look at this link. It's from Goofbay and it shows what sellers have sold. It worried me a little. http://www.goofbay.com/ebay_seller_history_tool.html?gsl_username=davidg9030&gsl_days=90&gsl_include=sold&gsl_show_buyers=on&gsl_submit=&gsl_submit.x=62&gsl_submit.y=6

If you can get to a Cartier Shop, they probably won't tell you if it is fake or not because most boutiques have a policy that they won't authenticate. And rightly so for really old items because advisors sometimes don't really know the older stuff.
But yours is meant to be new. So you should be able to see an identical wallet in there. At the least you could ask someone how to care for it and they will either take it seriously or not. High end companies do not release information about their products usually. However, Cartier products do have a website which you could look at.
There should be stamps hidden around inside it. Cartier, like other designers would put anti-faking mechanisms in their products. You need to look for those things.

You could also post over into the eBay board. People there could give you some advice perhaps. http://forum.purseblog.com/ebay-forum/
Good luck.

an easy but not 100% foolproof way to check is to go on alibaba.com, dhgate.com and tradekey.com; search the brand, if any results come up, that means the brand is faked. But just because something doesn't come up doesn't mean that fake ones don't exist, the producers might just not be selling out those sites (yet).

What I've been reading online about vintage Cartier handbags (Must de Cartier collection, usually in burgundy) is that they aren't targeted in general by those who are looking to create imitations. Nonetheless, I wanted some feedbag on an interestingly small difference in vintage Cartier handbags. I've noticed that the gold plate located on the inside of the bag will read either "le must de Cartier" OR "must de Cartier." There is ALSO a vintage Cartier handbag that DOES NOT have the gold plate, but a leather tag that simply says "Cartier Paris."

Is there any way to tell with absolute assurance which ones is real and which one is fake? I've included links to auctions / photos that show the three different tags:

must de Cartier:

Cartier Paris (leather tag):

Any informed feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to authenticating a Cartier ring? I have seen many on ebay and I am not sure how to know whether or not they are the real thing. I can't rely on price alone and would really hate to go through the dispute resolution process. Below is a particular ring that I am a little skeptical about. The guy states he bought in a "duty free shop" in a Tokyo airport. That alone brings up red flags for me. Any help on what to look for a direction to a website would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I am sure they were targeted by fakers because all high end brands are. Wallets in particular are absolutely scary. Perhaps it's true that some of their rarer models were not copied.

Your observations on the plates are interesting. But there is a lot more to it. To me, none of these auctions showed enough details. There are multiple points needed to tell if a bag is real. These auctions show 30 - 60 % of what I would want to see.

Sorry I am not going into details because there are scammers on the boards. Just keep looking on eBay and take note of the variety of pictures posted in auctions. This will show you the kinds of picture that are needed to determine authenticity. The plates are only one aspect of it. I do own bags with two of those plates and also leather patch bags.

Good luck
