I really want the damper azur (neverfull gm) but am so afraid of color transfer... I feel like I NEED some kind of protectant for the canvas... so many on here have said the usual methods like baby wipes and magic eraser don't always remove denim dye transfer... so I feel like I have to do something to prevent it in the first place.
I've seen waterproofer for canvas convertible tops, boat sails, tents, even stuff meant for handbags... being LV is a coated canvas... will any of these work? Have any of you had success preventing jean transfer by applying a protectant or sealant? Please help...
I searched the forums here for 2 days and am not really finding a solution.
Some suggest apple guard, but I'm uncertain if that's used for the leather pieces only or if used on canvas it left it greasy/shiny... is this true?

i saw a damier ebene canvas bag (a brand new style) listed on a reseller site the other day and someone had the bright idea to condition it with a lotion. the lotion basically stained the front white. the lotion gets trapped in the small grooves and you can end up ruining the bag. don't condition canvas with any lotions, don't spray it with stuff, just wipe it clean with something gentle.

Stupid me, this is exactly what i did, the lotion was trapped in the small grooves. How do i get it off?

The vinyl on LV canvas bags is polyvinyl chloride. PVC becomes brittle over time, caused by exposure to UV, various solvents, heat and cold. A mild soap followed by wiping with distilled water and thorough drying should be good for cleaning these bags. It is also possible to condition vinyl coated canvas. Avoid caustic detergents as well as those containing ammonia. There are special PVC cleaners and conditioners that protect the material and prevent stiffening, cracking and discoloration. I have personally used a specialty plastics cleaner/conditioner called Sea Glow. This stuff is made by a company named Island Girl and is coveted by collectors of custom sneakers among others. It's not easy to get your hands on a bottle of Sea Glow though, as the people producing it like to take long island vacations lasting the better part of the year, during which they don't conduct any business. This is according to announcements on their website!
I'm sure that other options for conditioning vinyl exist, just keep in mind that only products designed to prevent loss of plasticizers, will do the job.

Never realized there was conditioner or PVC. Thanks for the info! Anyone any other brands that won't be difficult to get hold of?

I personally use Duragloss but only on my very old / vintage bags. Been using it for many years but of course can't say about the long term effect. So far I haven't seen any detrimental effect but I'm comfortable using it only with my old bags to refresh the vibrant look of the canvas.

Just now I applied it to my OM Peit Noe from early 90's (which I haven't used for a long time!) on the left side of the bag only. Leaves a slight sheen, but not sticky when completely dried

I've not been feeling well for a while but now that I am on the mend I have been peeking in on my bags and some are giving me the side eye. I might try to spruce up the vinyl a little bit.
