Clarity Enhanced Diamond

I've never seen one that I know of, but I am sure I've come across them. I have no problem with it, as long as the consumer is aware of what they are purchasing and is instructed how to care for it. I understand that you can basically undo the filling if the ultrasound machines are used, I think?

It can be a good way to stretch a diamond budget, just like selecting a warmer color, a larger table, ect. It's all about what the buyer wants.

I don't know much about them except that they are more fragile than diamonds that haven't been enhanced. Also I'm not sure if your insurance company will cover them if they're enhanced due to the fact that they're more fragile.

I have seen a 1.25 carat clarity enhanced diamond. My jeweller told me the value is greatly reduced, is it more sensitive, & I could see little black flecks in it with my naked eye. It did not have that WOW factor or sparkle that a natura diamond does.
This is only my opinion from what I have seen.

I'm hoping someone can help me out with my dilemma. I recently bought a bezel set .51 carat F colour VS2 diamond solitaire pendant off ebay. I'm not very familiar with diamonds and just want a simple pendant I can wear everyday, but this seemed like a good deal. But I've reread the fine print and it says it is clarity enhanced. Can someone please tell me what this means? I assume it decreases the value. I paid $550. Is this a good deal? Any advice would be appreciated.

do you have it in your hands? it certainly seems like an incredible price.

if you are uncomfortable, you may want to tell the seller that you didn't realize it was clarity enhanced, since it was in very fine print. you may be able to retract your bid..

good luck, let us know what happens.

I believe I've read that clarity enhanced diamonds often have sort of a "jet stream" type effect in the stone, and that the enhancing process weakens the stone. In a pendant or earrings, it would probably be fine. But I'd worry about wearing one in a ring.

I don't think you really need to worry about anything. You got a great deal and you like it. Once you put it on, no one knows anything about your necklace except that it's adorable and you look fantastic wearing it! You certainly don't need to tell people anything you don't want to. Furthermore, you do realize that there is no way you would be able to pick up a .51ct F/VS2 (presumably in gold?) for that price if it weren't "helped". But that's your little secret about your new diamond necklace!

Furthermore, since it's in a pendant, there is little worry about damage. Rings and bracelets, yes, I would worry a lot. The only concern I have is how to clean it without risk of damage. I didn't read the articles. If they comment on cleaning, follow their advice. If not, I probably would not heat it or vibrate it. Care for it like you would an emerald - a quick little squirt of Windex and a scrub with a toothbrush will do the trick.

Do you know anything about the method they used to improve it's clarity? Was it filled?

Cleaning an enhanced diamond is no different than cleaning a non-enhanced one. You just would not want to leave the pendant in an ultrasonic for say a few hours. The main thing to remember is that if you ever re-set the diamond or have it worked on for any reason, you MUST tell the jeweler. An enhanced diamond cannot take the heat a non-enhanced can.
I think you got a great deal and if you're fine with the diamond then keep it. It is still a genuine diamond - just got improved is all.
