It depends if they are both the same price. To me, a Birkin seems to hold its value better than a diamond. As we have seen, the price of Birkin keeps climbing and because of the long waiting list to obtain one, it can sell well over retail price in the secondary market. If both are the same price, I'd go for the Birkin. :D

My crystal ball is badly cracked, so I am an abysmal prognosticator. I voted Birkin (assuming you don't intend to use it as security)

I think that the Birkin will be more expensive as time goes by. I think the price of gold is a bit silly right now, and as soon as the Chinese and Indian governments have completed their stockpile, will drop.

HOWEVER - the price of diamonds has dropped, especially for the larger stones. There aren't as many bargains as there was last year - but I do think diamonds will go up.

The gold will always have some resale value - the Birkin will fluctuate but on average will not be worth as much as the ring.

In short - I think that you will pay less if you bought a Birkin now and a ring later. I also think the resale value on the Birkin will be worth less than the ring.

I could never bring myself to buy my own diamond ring (diamond earrings yes, ring no), I just dont want the confusion of it being some sort of promise ring/engagement ring

(shock horror, what's if it was bigger than any engagement ring I would get in the future!)

Or failing that, I would buy myself a watch.......a patek philippe that is

Depends on the size and quality of the diamond! But, on the surface, I'd say diamond, diamond, diamond! Nothing like a fingers with bling! :nuts: Love Birkins, but can't diamonds are a better investment!

i would let your other half buy the diamond and opt for a birkin instead.

also the range of diamond quality cut and style are so broad that i'm not sure if the same fund to get a birkin will get the ring of your dreams. well at least the ring of my dreams cost a bit more than the birkin..

I'd rather have a fabulous diamond (prob more than the birkin) or an engagement ring (not up to me to decide).. but the birkin is constant and always fabulous.

diamond actually does not hold up value better than birkins. google resell diamond, it's a myth! all about supply and demand. less birkin out there than diamond.

Ring. Birkin is fun but diamonds are a girl's best friend.

For me , Dimond can last long 100 years ++...+ but Berkin can do only maximum 10 years, with use , they age :shrugs:

But when you ask this same question in Hermes Forum , perhaps you get opposite answers.:roflmfao:
