I am very particular about my clothes. I like to buy from ethical brands such as:http://www.peopletree.co.uk and or European made in England, Scotland or France labels. It's not important to me that they are from name designetrs and I avoid anything with obvious branding. I do look for top notch materials though, such as good quality silk, organic cotton, british wool and scottish cashmere. These will cost more than the cheapo brands, but they are so much more comfortable to wear and look better.

+1 on the high quality materials. It makes such a difference in the way the garment feels and wears.

+2, I am working hard to buy all natural, ethically produced clothing. As a plus size, Eileen Fischer is my best option. I can find some good buys on resale sites, same as getting great pre-owned bags.

It irritates me to no end when i see girls with really expensive bags and cheap clothes.

i think it is all about mixing and matching different pieces to fit your lifestyle, but come on... there is a girl on YT who wears kmart clothes with her chanel bags 0_0...

i have some clothes from h&m and f21. but i am VERY selective about what i pick out from there. i have everything from Alice & Olivia and Helmut lang to H&M.

for me, i am at the stage in my life where Akris, JPG, Brunello Cucinelli- they just don't work for my lifestyle. love the clothes, just don't work for me

I think nothing wrong with that. If a person want to wear kmart clothes and carry a Chanel bag who are we to judge, right?

I try to match the look of my expensive handbag--meaning i try to look expensive and pulled together, even in sweats bc there are nicer sweats. It's a look I try to curate w/myself. I do like buying MOST of my clothing on sale though bc inevitably everything is cut in price and everything is cyclical in fashion. It's not hard to look expensive imo and it doesn't mean you need to buy expensive.

I actually just ordered a few h&m items the other day [leggings and a sweater] and I try to read the label to make sure the fabric is decent.

Amen to that! Well said, and so true.

I just can't invest in designer clothes because I don't feel like they are worth it. I mean a basic tee for $400 and the materials aren't even amazing. I tend to get certain things in different places. I prefer to invest in coats, sweaters but things like Jeans, tees, pants, I don't really care.

I get you. Usually the person looks tacky and cheap depending on what the item is. If it's jeans it's not a big deal but I have seen ppl who just look...cheap. Some peope just don't have an eye for putting together outfits. I have no problem w/high and lows...UpClose&Stylish does it on IG but she has an eye for fshion. Some people don't and just look awful and it makes me doubt the authenticty of their items. It really does.

eta: I do not buy full out designer clothing...I buy mid range Tibi, DVF, Equipment, JCrew, Zara, etc. so maybe to someone else I look cheap and tacky.

i think that i spend on designer accessories and not on designer clothing is because accessories are what i notice on other people. i am way more apt to check out your bag and jewelry than i am your pants!!!

For me, it's not about whether someone is checking out the pants, it's the way they fit and feel. With denim for example, I find that the higher end brands often have softer denim. & more flattering cuts. I try to buy them used or on sale to keep costs down.

I don't understand expensive t shirts either. I wear them a lot because I hate ironing. I totally agree about the sweaters, jackets being more important pieces.

exactly. perhaps "irritates" was the wrong word to use. there is NOTHING wrong with mixing Target or Kmart with more expensive items. I personally don't care for people wearing $10 clothes from head to toe and calling themselves chic because they threw on a chanel... to me that is tacky and a bit of a cop out. ESPECIALLY when they are plastering themselves on IG and YT as "fashionista(s)" their word, not mine.
