Why next Friday?Paris is not empty yetIt will be from next Friday probably... Honestly, some places are so packed, it feels like usual rush hour sometime.
Because it's the same every year, right before August 15th (bank holiday), Paris is completely empty. Many restaurants are closed. A lot of business are closed. Tourists just left and Parisian also. Why next Friday?
Yes, they're usually pretty strict about that "1 bag per person every 2 months" policy. That's stupid.Okay just a reference point, for what it’s worth. Seems some stores are truly enforcing limits On items purchased. I purchased a mini at Le Bon Marche on Friday. I was also eyeing a Deauville but they didn’t have the size/color (small/beige) combination I wanted. On Sunday, my friend and I popped into Rue 31 to see if They had it. She was also looking for the same bag in black. They checked and said they had both at Galeries Lafayette, so we trekked down there and waited in the awful 45 min plus line. Once inside, they brought down the bags (huge selection By the way for anyone looking) but they wouldn’t allow me to buy it since I’d already purchased a bag 2 days before. No problem for my friend since she hadn’t made a purchase on this trip. I was a little in shock to be honest. The SA went upstairs to ask her manager but it was still a no go. I told her that the SA at Le Bon Marche would’ve allowed me to buy both bags on Friday if they’d had the exact Deauville I wanted. She said her manager wouldn’t allow two Deauvilles (my beige one and my friend’s black one) to be purchased, something about them being similar styles, even though we were paying for them separately. At this point I should’ve left well enough alone as I’d spent a little recklessly all weekend (I was in Paris for my 50th) and had had too much champagne at lunch. I called my sister who was somewhere else in the department store to come over and buy it on my behalf, which apparently was no problem. I’m sorry if this post is OT, but I thought some may Find it relevant and plan their purchases accordingly.
It is although it seems there is some flexibility or some locations are more strict than others. Like I mentioned, the boutique inside Le Bon Marche would’ve allowed me to purchase both bags. Perhaps how busy the store is at the moment could influence the manager’s decision? I was at LBM early Friday morning/no line, whereas Sunday late afternoon @ GL had a massive queue outside.Yes, they're usually pretty strict about that "1 bag per person every 2 months" policy. Yes, LBM has been pretty quiet these days... But they usually apply the same policy. They didn't want me to buy a bag in March after I bought one in February. Well, I guess they would have asked the store manager but not sure he/she would've agreed. It is although it seems there is some flexibility or some locations are more strict than others. Why is LBC not as popular Galerie Lafayette or Printemps? Could someone explain to me what’s the difference buying from Chanel vs the department store?Yes, LBM has been pretty quiet these days... It’s just further out from the central Paris tourist zone, seems to me that more locals shop @ LBM. But if you know how to get around, it’s really not too far out. I’ve actually walked over (it does take a bit) but you could always jump in a cab or metro (straight trip/no changes from Concorde drops you off basically at the front door of the Dept store). I’ll let @Martyp weigh in, with their local viewpoint. Why is LBC not as popular Galerie Lafayette or Printemps? Absolutely true! Generally speaking, usual visitors of LBM are Parisians, and some Asian tourists. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, probably due to their location, and also because they're much bigger, are visited mostly by tourists from everywhere in the world. It’s just further out from the central Paris tourist zone, seems to me that more locals shop @ LBM.
