Thoughts? I, definitely for one, have lost interest in Chanel and have found the resale market oversaturated with Chanel bags.

It's the same in Hong Kong - frequently see ladies carrying Chanel WOCs, SLGs in the wet markets... The reported move by Chanel towards exclusivity looks overdue... Personally I don't think Chanel is especially easy to buy, especially in a market like Hong Kong, SAs here in my experience are very cliquey - definitely moving in the Hermes direction, I think the issue is probably quantity of quality.

Saw today also. Really interesting. And it's true that that the marketplace is beyond flooded w/ Chanel, but the marketplace is also flooded w/ Birkins & Kellys. TRR & FP have just loads and loads of them. Maybe at high prices, but the ubiquity is impressive. A few years ago, the price didn't matter...people would have paid anything just to get their hands on one. And now everyone can finance something, fakes are better quality than the real ones (super fakes not street corner fakes) & nonstop games to feign scarcity is exhausting consumers. Not sure where we go from here?

I agree. Luxury fatigue is real. I went on a spending spree last year and I don't have the mental energy nowadays to look for new bags, especially chase them.

The future will be small bespoke workshops making tailor made items at the highest quality level without a need to cater to investors. Social media has made it easier than ever for small manufacturers to have a platform to reach an international customer base with ease.

More and more people seem to be disillusioned by the reality of the luxury industry ruled by a select few conglomerates.

True, im getting tired of buying chanel bag in each season now given the bags are not as unique as the Karl times. I have been spending my money on jewelries and watches instead.

Isn't a big part of this also rampant counterfeits. Living in a city where I walk, there are a lot of LV counterfeits which makes it feel like everyone has one. I've never owned a Chanel bag so it's hard to tell those for me.
It's not just counterfeits; it depends on where you live but in certain areas there are uniforms that sort of pop up over time. Chanel flap, VCA earrings, Cartier love bracelet, and Rolex watch being the outfit for 15-30 year olds wanting something classic but recognizably luxurious.

Pre-loved sites have huge inventories of flaps, since they have been produced for decades with very little changes to the design so there is a Chanel flap available for everyone at any price-point. Albeit prices has skyrocketed on the second hand market over the last few years, making this less feasible today.

I agree and I’ve already delved into some of this with some exotics from “unknown” designers. Very very satisfying. Almost the same feeling I had in junior high when I did exactly the opposite of the gaggle.

What is a wet market? I'm in the US.

I read korean newspaper articles that "Jjinbu", the real wealthy people (people that come from true wealth, not the new rich or upper middle class) are turned off by the lines and lack of exclusivity of Chanel, reiterating to that post in TPF about what luxury means. If you don't know, korea is one of those countries that culturally have a strong sense of materialism, and this article doesn't do the justice of the deep social implication.

My head is just spinning with Chanel having 6 seasons! Why do you need 6 seasons??? There are so many designs that I can't even tell if they made it or not. I assume that if I am not aware of it that it might be fake.
