Hi fellow Chanel lovers, I know this isn’t handbag related but I figured this is the best place to ask. I’ve been seeing some really nice earrings from the Chanel boutiques and kinda want to pull the trigger to purchase a pair, but I don’t know about the quality of these so called “fashion jewelry” from designers like Chanel. Has anyone ever bought these jewelry pieces from Chanel and can comment on the quality and if you regret your purchase? It doesn’t cost nearly as much as a bag but it’s still $$. Thank you!

Imo you're just paying for its brand. They will oxidise and worse, crystals fall off. I've made trips to Chanel to have the crystals replaced, free though. Still, it's such a hassle for an expensive buy.

That said, we are all paying a premium for luxury brands anyway, be it jewellery, bag, shoes, RTW, etc.

I've moved away from costume jewellery (due to those experiences as mentioned). I'd say they are still pretty to own so if you wanna buy, get those without crystals to save the trouble. Get a classic pair of earrings or maybe two. Anything more, I feel we are better off buying fine jewellery that's made of real 18k (think of jewellery names like bvlgari, Cartier, Tiffany, etc.). You would own real element that lasts you a lifetime and the piece can be passed down for generations.

I never understood chanel costume jewelry as I kept seeing posts after posts of the jewels or pearls falling off. It's not cheap either. However this year was the first year after a decade of buying chanel purses that I actually bought two earrings. Both do not have jewels or pearls on them. My SA knows that's my criteria for fashion jewelry. I don't want to have to deal with repair in the future. It's free in the beginning but as the years go by, I have read posts where they have told people that they can't repair it because they don't have that specific gem or jewel anymore for older style fashion jewelry. So I don't think those are worth it They've come out with some really cute ones recently that isn't all bedazzled.

After these two, I'm going to get VCA and cartier. I do like wearing the two I purchased though :)

I have bought costume and I have bought fine jewelry. Costume is a waste of money. My pearl fell off my Chanel brooch and they took it in for repair for months before telling me nothing could be done (WTF?!). I have Dior tribal earrings and one of the pearls fell off, so I glued it back on. It’s still wearable but I’ve never had anything fall off of my fine jewelry pieces.

Save yourself the money and hassle. Buy fine jewelry only.

I have several pieces of chanel costume jewelry including earrings and a brooch. They are definitely beautiful pieces, but like some of the posters above I dont see myself adding more.

Having said that I do see the value of owning a few of these pieces for more "fashionable" options compared to fine jewelry. I would recommend getting maybe a pair of classic cc studs without pearls or crystals if you do plan on getting a pair to try out.

Edited to add that you can also consider chanel's fine jewellery line coco crush. They have some amazing 18k pieces too

Thank you for the replies everyone! I really appreciate it! It seems like the general consensus is that they are not worth it so I will probably just save up money towards fine jewelry. All your feedbacks helped me save some decent money because I was so close to pulling trigger on this pair of earrings because it looks so gorgeous, but now I see it probably won’t last very long!

Good decision. That's asking for repair with all those crystals. It is pretty though!

At first, I was a nah, it’s costume jewelry and not worth the price. But then I got a brooch, and then another, and another, and then a necklace, earrings… and I ended up with way more pieces than I ever thought I would. But now I think I am done. I have plenty, and only buy real metals again.
