What a nice dilemma! Both are so classy classics, but I have to agree with most of the other answers and recommend the classic Chanel flap for the first bag. Don¨t get me wrong; the Dior is beautiful and somehow more special than the Chanel, but I think you maybe will get more use of the Chanel flap.
Which bag are you in love with? Which bag makes your heart beat a bit faster? No matter which bag you choose in the end you will make a great choice!

Thanks All! I happened to get the Dior for now ( sorry to disappoint Chanel lovers) as I fell in love with its limited edition color I am saving up for Chanel ( for my big 30th bday next yr ) Hopefully there won't be a drastic increase in price lol

I am currently having a dilemma over which bag to purchase. Pros and cons below mainly relate to my circumstances:

a) Chanel Classic Flap in Caviar (Black)
Pros
- Classic and iconic bag
- Women’s dream bag
- Good resale value
- Always a fan of Chanel
- May not be able to afford it in the future if I do not get it now

Cons:
- May be slightly too dressy as I am looking for a more casual bag (I have the YSL Kate in gold hardware - though they are of different level, I foresee I would use them for similar purpose)


b) My lady Dior (Preferably pastel colour)
Pros:
- Love at first sight with the design of this bag with the pins
- Looking for a more casual bag and after trying the pastel colours, I think it looks casual yet luxurious enough at the same time
- Slightly more wallet friendly
- One of my wish list

Cons:
- Less resale value
- Would still be pining for Chanel classic flap after purchasing this
- Have read that the opening is not as user friendly compared to Chanel flap


I owned one Chanel Boy in Black with RHW hardware and while this is also a casual bag for me, I would really want to have a pastel coloured bag. Have considered getting the beige Chanel instead, but if I am getting the classic Chanel, am thinking I should be getting the most classic combo. I would say my heart is leaning towards Dior, but how I could I say no to Chanel when I may not be able to afford this anymore in the future?

I have a Lady Dior in Medium ( Black lambskin with gold hardware) and adore it! I’ve had it for a few years already and it gets more compliments than any other bag in my small collection. I dress it up and wear it casually. It still causes my heart to skip a beat. It’s classic, elegant and fits perfectly with my style and lifestyle. As for a Chanel Classic Flap, like you, I felt I Had to have one in my collection, so a year ago I got a M/L in Beige Caviar with Gold Hardware. It’s beautiful and I love the color, but I still prefer the LD. If you Love the Dior and know you’ll enjoy using it, I’d get it. You have your YSL Kate, and that’s a lovely, classy bag! Follow your heart. I will say with what these bags cost ( and prices will continue to increase), classic styles will remain so. The My Lady is less classic than the original, but it’s so beautiful and versatile. I’m at the point where I want to have a little fun and enjoy fashion, while still being classic.

If you buy the Dior new, the newer model is much easier to get into the the old Dior bags. They took away that annoying zipper that would scratch up your hands while accessing the bag. They have a small flap now. I'd say the Dior is now easier to get into then the Chanel but the Chanel is more secure. Personally, I would look at Chanel pre-owned as their quality isn't what it used to be. Dior OTOH still has superb quality, but don't retain resale value as much as Chanel does.

Yea I am looking to buy the new model, but haven’t really got to try it out in depth, because my heart is still debating on Dior vs Chanel. Will got o the boutique again to really try it out.

I am actually thinking of the same, to buy preloved Chanel classic flap instead, as I see some can go for really great value with excellent condition.

I’ve had opportunities to purchase a classic flap and always ended up with a seasonal bag because I knew it would be unlikely to find that bag in the future. And now recently I’ve rediscovered Dior (not sure why I haven’t given the brand much thought until lately). The Lady Dior is next on my wishlist and I’ll be getting her for my birthday next month. There’s just something about that bag that I can’t resist and supposedly Dior quality is better than Chanel (haven’t had any quality issues so can’t speak to that). If I could only have one, it would be the lady Dior. Plus if you’re going with the My Lady, you can personalize it...that makes it even more special. I suggest trying them both on.
