Hi everyone!

I’m thinking about adding a Chanel 19 in the small/medium size to my collection this year and would love to hear your opinions. It seems like a very functional and convenient bag with good capacity, which is exactly what I need. My current Chanel bags are all on the smaller side, and while I tend to pack light, I sometimes need to carry extras like a phone charger and two pairs of glasses (sunglasses and reading glasses). My usual bags feel a bit tight for that, so I was thinking the 19 could be a great option for full-day outings.

That said, I’m wondering if you all feel like the bag still looks fresh in 2025 or if it’s starting to feel a little dated. The big chain trend was definitely strong a few years ago, but I’m not sure how it’s aging now. Do you think it still has that timeless appeal, or is it more of a trend piece?

Also, do you see the Chanel 19 in black color as more of a winter bag because of its puffier, cozier look, or do you think it works just as well in the summer months? I’d love to hear any experiences, thoughts, or styling advice from those who own or have considered this bag.

Also, for those who own or have tried the Chanel 19—how is the weight? I know it has a chunky chain, but does it feel significantly heavier than, say, a Classic Flap in caviar (small or medium)? If anyone has both, I’d love to hear how they compare in terms of comfort for all-day wear.

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to your insights.

I love mine! It's very spacious and functional. I want to add a Carmel color whenever it comes back. It does get a little heavy because of the chunky chains and the strap is more comfortable when worn with a top that provides some cushion. As for trends, they come and go so I don't really follow all that. I use whatever works for me. I've definitely used the 19 a lot more than my classic flap, I love a good crossbody bag.

Thanks for sharing! What color and leather do you have? I absolutely love the caramel color—wish they’d bring it back! I’m also a fan of the black with a silver turnlock, but I’ve only come across it on the pre-loved market. Do you know if it’s a regular part of the collection or more of a rare find?

I don’t have but love it. I think it's comfortable, lightweight, timeless and still see it often (NYC)! I seriously considered a black before going for small 22. I held off bc I’m 5’2 and small and it looks awkward on me (chain too long for shoulder carry and I prefer smaller size if crossbody). For me, it worked only as top handle and that’s not what I was after. Did you try it yet? It could be perfect for you!

I tried it on about a year ago, but I don’t remember how it felt, so I definitely need to try it again before ordering. I’m 5'4", and in the only photo I took while wearing it, it looks too long as a shoulder bag. However, since I usually wear my bags crossbody or hand-carry, that’s not a major concern. My biggest hesitation is the weight and whether I’ll be comfortable with the chunky chains, as I tend to prefer more understated designs.

I previously bought a 22 Mini for a similar purpose, but I find it frustrating because it doesn’t close properly, and the strap is too long even for crossbody wear. So, I’m looking for something that feels more seamless to use.

I have black with the gold. From what I was told they will offer black in every collection but have discontinued other colors for now. Let's hope they bring it back in other colors. I have seen the black with silver a few times, so I don't think it's that rare. Keep checking the boutique for it. The stock from older collections sometimes comes in later.

I spontaneously stopped by the boutique today and saw the bag in a few seasonal bright colors, like orange and lilac, as well as black with gold hardware. I tried it on, and while I still love the aesthetics, it didn’t feel quite right for me. I didn't feel comfortable with the big logo and the bag looked too chunky when I tried it on crossbody. I’ll admire it from a distance!

Agree with all of the members above. I wear bags if I love them regardless of style, but I also think if you feel it might be dated, then listen to your inner voice.

While I also see plenty of black 19s in NYC, for the most part I see it worn quite casually with denim or weekend wear. I do think in other locations, black may be also be perceived as wintery

Some others mention the boy bag. I think of the boy as a more classic silhouette despite the chunky chain. It is also perhaps easier to dress up and down.

But, ultimately wear what you love that is most suited to your personal aesthetic and needs.

It certainly is not the understated seamless design you’re looking for! Plenty of options out there, have fun hunting:)

Personally I do think it’s a little dated. The things that bother me are the chain, the chain style logo and the larger quilts. I just don’t think this bag has staying power. But having said that - if it goes with your style and it’s practical for your lifestyle then go for it. If you ever got bored and wanted to sell it - I don’t think it would retain its value like
some other Chanel bags do.

It’s my only chanel purchase regret. I think it’s because I got the shiny beige. Tried to sell it and even the resellers won’t accept it new with tags… so I’m gonna use it this spring and try to find some joy with it.. I think the color you are interested in is a wise choice.. also consider pre-loved. IMO they are not worth current retail price.. which is almost 2k more than what I paid a few years ago. Good luck!
