ceramic watches - a trend?

I 'had' a J12 33mm black w/diamond markers......ended up selling because I was starting to get tired of seeing so many ceramic watches. I really, really enjoyed it while I had it (a little over 4 years) and loved it but decided to go with another classic watch because I couldn't stand having the J12 just sitting in a drawer. I have decided to stick with the classics as far as watches go, I have the Cartier SS Roadster, Cartier SS Tank F. and a TT Rolex midsize. I'm done as far as expensive watches go.......if I find a never-ending bucket of money then I would most certainly change my tune! :)

Not sure. The Chanels may be a new classic. I think they have the simplicity and power of design that can make a classic.

I wholeheartedly agree. The J12s are different than all of the other ceramic watches. They are by far the best looking ones I've seen and while all of the copycat watches will most likely go "out of style" soon, I think the J12 is here to stay. It's simplicity (as someone else mentioned) and symmetry definitely make it a candidate for classic status.

As for the ceramic watches turning yellow over time, so far I haven't experienced that and I've been wearing one every day for over a year now. I believe the ones that turn yellow are either low quality ceramic or the ones that have a ceramic coating over a stainless steel or base metal center. As for them getting dirty, mine does get dirty, but only in between the linkes, never on them, so it still looks perfect, you have to really look closely to see the dirt. Add the extreme scratch resistance (I can't see even one!) and I'm definitely sold.

All of that being said, you should always buy what you love. Who cares if right now everyone is wearing ceramic and in the future they aren't? It would be foolish to buy something, not because you like it, but because it's trendy. If your enjoyment of something is dependent upon the people around you, that's not good.

Do you think ceramic watches especially the white ones are a trend? Do you think no one will be wearing them in 5-10 years? I love my J12s and I'm keeping them but I feel guilty cause I don't wear them everyday like some people. I've been favoring my air king. I worry that these ceramic watches are eventually going to look dated. Perhaps I should give my air king a rest and let the others in my collection see some daylight!

The white and black J12 could already be dated, chanel has introduced a blue ceramic J12:nuts:

I have a black 33mm with diamond markers. I would love a white with pink. I do want a gold Rolex though as I love YG. I think the Chanel brand will keep the J12's in style for a long long time.

Great post!! I have a J12 and it pops against my skin, will I wear it in 10 years time? Well my skin will not change colour so why not??

Really, if I liked flares and its out of fashion, do I really care?????NO I wear whatever I like when I like. Life is too short to dwell imo.

I dont need people to give me their blessing to buy anything although their enabling is nice:graucho:

Good topic Hoka! I myself do not own a J12 as of now but will be soon! My opinion is that the Chanel J12 will stand the test of time & trends because it was released back in 2000 and it's still going strong! It may be that other companies are now jumping on the ceramic bandwagon because of how popular the J12 has been, but lets not kid ourselves Chanel is the best of its kind! ;)

I'm in the same boat. White ceramic looks great against my skin tone (at least I think so). Much more so than stainless steel, so I don't see myself trading it in or retiring it anytime soon!

Chanel is timeless...I have several Chanel bags that are 18/20 years old and still look classic. Maybe other ceramic watches will go out of style but I think the J12 is here to stay!
