Celine Cashmere Overcoat - Your Thoughts

I noticed that this coat is double face cashmere. Double faced wool and cashmere are everywhere this fall. I was going to point you in the direction of Max Mara till I read further down in your post. If this Celine is calling out to you, and you can do it, I say go for it!
Thank you! Yes, I noticed that too about the double-faced. Apparently extra warm! It is indeed calling me. X

If you have to ask, pass. Only buy what you love and can easily afford. Trust your gut. Your hesitation is telling you not to buy this coat.
I do really love it, and once it's in stock I'll probably get it. My hesitation was that it's 100% cashmere / London-local and of course that the prices are forever increasing but I have no problem paying at all, IF the quality is deserving of it.

These are good questions. I don't think I'd be too concerned if it's drizzling but I know I'll be checking in the hourly forecast religiously to strategise my indoor / outdoor game. TBH I do that even in my usual gear - a Londoner's second nature!

On the pilling, I can't be sure but I think it would be prone to it. @maxroxxherhandbags have your Phoebe / cashmere coats pilled at all? X
@Saturday14 None of my Phoebe coats are pure Cashmere, I have one in her classic buttonless narrow lapel style

That one has worn brilliantly, its in a Wool mix I think and although I get it out pretty regularly (I'm a coat addict and own in excess of 25 coats! so I rotate them almost weekly) it still looks like new.
Another is a buttonless cocoon style which does have some Cashmere in it..its almost like a ribbed wool and that one has worn badly..Its black and pilled A-LOT its actually a couple of years younger than the tailored coat..due to the pilling I've worn it much less and now its more of a 'throw-on' to pop to the gym coat.
The 3rd is wool Army style belted great-coat and that is the toughest of the 3 and has been great in the rain..it may have alpaca in it.
Sorry for the long response and vague description of exact fabric content but I'm feeling too lazy to go downstairs and rifle in my coat cupboard (I keep them all in hanging cloth bags to protect from moths..I'd advise you to do the same).
Experience has taught me that pure Cashmere in black often pills more than in other dyes..I have 3 Phoebe era Celine Cashmere jumpers very thick ply and its only the black that has pilled at all, not the burgundy or the grey.
hope this helps!

I don't think the price seems too unreasonable and it seems you really want the coat and it will be a useful addition to your wardrobe.

I live in a climate that doesn't get cold at all and I bought a Prada jacket (not cashmere) last summer while in St. Barths. Seemed crazy especially for $7k but i don't regret it for a minute. I absolute love this coat and have gotten more use out of it than expected as i got to use it several times this year while traveling to colder climates (and always get compliments).

In my experience I have learned of I'm obsessing over something that much I may as well get it or I'm going to end up regretting it and trying to track down later on when it may no longer be available. I don't know anything about London weather (although I'm supposed to be going there in a few days) but hopefully you'll get plenty of use out of it and it will retain its quality!

Agree here. What I have learned over the years through trial & error, buy what you love
as you will always be satisfied & that item no longer remains elusive.
Sales are great for fill ins in a wardrobe, but to take a chance that a coat by a desireable
designer may make it to the markdown rack is luck..
I tend to think that items that are in a certain price range are limited in size as well as
being limited in availablity, JMO

I'm grateful for your long response - please don't be sorry! I appreciate that you generously took the time to write as you did. Interestingly, I had tried on your wool black coat in Harrods many years ago and it was my absolute favourite coat design of Phoebe's! You have gorgeous taste. I even have a mirror selfie somewhere of me in that very same coat. How serendipitous. :) X

Thank you so much for this note! This is exactly how I felt when I didn't buy the wool version this time last year, I've regretted it and have since been on the hunt to find it / transfer with zero stock anywhere. But perhaps my calling was for the more luxurious cashmere version instead! I am so curious about the Prada jacket you have - I know it shouldn't matter but it is always so reassuring when other people can visibly notice the quality and comment on it! I hope you have a gorgeous time here in London. It's a beautiful, autumnal feeling right now with bright sun, cold air. X

Yes, you're absolutely right about that. I know that they only receive maximum x2 in each size (in most cases just the one), and not in every shop either, and once it's sold, they don't receive any further from the warehouse, it has to be transferred from one shop to another. Thank you for your great advice!
