Celebrity Eco Hypocrites

Private plane/jet travel is a luxury and it also burns a lot of fuel but so does commercial flying as well. The thing about celebs traveling via private jet is that they do so because they can and they do it because it's private, safe and convenient. I think that most people would probably hire a private plane if they had the means to do so. On the other hand, if you're rich enough to charter a private plane then you obviously have enough money to shell out for a few 1st class seats. Why does a celeb have to travel via private jet all of the time? First Class does not occupy that many seats on a commercial plane to begin with and so it is more private then flying in coach, so if they really wanted too they could board a commercial flight every once in a while. Maybe they should try and live by example! But calling them out on the hypocracy isn't totally fair as most of us aren't 100% eco friendly all of the time for whatever the reason!

Sigh...reminds me of the saying, "do as I say, not as I do."
:nogood:

I find that it's this way with most people who prattle on all day long about environmental issues. I understand that it's nearly impossible to truly "live green" in today's world and that it's important do little things to help. BUT it's so obnoxious to listen to all these self-righteous jerks condemn the rest of the world when they're just as bad (if not worse) themselves.

ITA.
What irks me is that my family has ALWAYS recycled, used those lightbulbs, turned off lights when we left the room yadda yadda and now people are acting like, "OMG, do this, it's SO ecofriendly!", "Go green!"
Um I thought everyone did that but now that I see people following all the celebrities' "examples," I guess not.
It also bothers me that so many of them act like they're so much better than everyone else and like they started all this.
While when we started recycling, saving water, etc., people were acting like we were weird or "cheapskates" for doing it.

i think the most important thing is that people are now more AWARE of the importance of environmental responsibility than ever before. sure, tons of people still use plastic bags and waste water and electricity etc, and celebrities may be huge hypocrites about it sometimes but the thing is, they're getting the word out, which i think is the first step in a series of baby steps toward an environmentally conscious future. more and more people are starting to recycle more, use less plastic bags etc etc. it always starts with awareness and information and with that as a catalyst, things will eventually start to roll.

I usually don't listen to anything celebrities say because most of them are hippocrites and most of them don't know what they're talking about anyway. They're just a bunch of PR soundbites. Some of these Third World countries that we're always "helping" are way ahead of us in some ways. My parents growing up in India lived in families that generated very little garbage. Everything was reused and recycled and very little was unnecessarily wasted. They took canvas bags to the market back then, way before Anya Hindmarch's "I'm not a plastic bag" came out. Celebrities are more wasteful than us mere mortals in most ways. I think a lot of them are just a bunch of hot air.
