hi there from tropical singapore!

will be traveling to seoul this december
my first time to seoul in winter

would like to ask for recommendations on places or brands that carry quality cashmere long coats?

i will be having my moncler fulmarus with me but hoping to get a cashmere coat there like in kdramas! 😆

need not be branded, so long as it’s warm

thank u all!

thanks all! i’ve seen a beautiful Max Mara coat in camel wool, any idea how it compares to cashmere?

i have a Totome coat which has a mix of cashmere and wool but i kinda find it prickly😂
not sure if i should avoid wool
though 100% cashmere should be out of my budget range

Brunello and Loro P sometimes go on sale. Or at least they used to. I find the cut a bit better for shorties than Max Mara.

For a less expensive option, I would try a smaller store brand or a brand carried by a larger luxury department store like NM or Bergdorfs or Saks.

I find Max Mara camel warmer than any cashmere coat I've ever owned or tried on, even Max Mara!
thank you for the feedback!

does it feel prickly?

In addition to these suggestions, Nordstrom, Net A Porter may have some good options
If your coat doesn't have to be cashmere like Max Mara, LP & Bruno Cuccinelli
you may want to look at Khaite, Toteme even Ralph Lauren for a nice wool coat
as they might be more budget friendly, JMO
Too bad SEARLE isn't around anymore... there was always a variety of coats & fabrications

My last SEARLE coat was mid nineties, but it was amazing. I feel as though the brand disappeared around the resurgence of the full length puffy coats in the early aughts

SEARLE was the go to for many of us & remember they did seasonal coats like for spring, fall
& then a good warm coat for winter in beautiful colors & fabrics where you knew you were
wearing a "winter coat", IYKWIM

Would love to hear your thoughts on whether Loro P and Brunello coats are better quality than MaxMara? I own a MaxMara and love it but looking to add another coat this year and really considering LP

I used to wear a lot of max Mara coats. In the end I stopped bc I felt they dwarfed me. I’m 5’2” and medium build, relatively broad shoulder for an Asian. I’m about a size 38 Chanel; 40 Dior, US 4-6. For many years, I was closer to 6-8, and the volume of Max Mara wasn’t entirely flattering. (I basically started to look like a chunky furry animal) I do think MM is warm, but there is just too much coat there. They lasted for years.

IMO, I believe LP or brunello are more finely made garments. LP is cut closer to the body, in a way that is more sartorial, less fashion. They’re built to last season after season. DH has a number of LP coats and jackets, and LPs weatherproof cashmere is outstanding. Lux and durable. His cashmere car coat, I forget the name, but it’s almost a uniform in UES NY winters is 20 plus years old and looks brand new.

Most high quality cashmere or wool blend is Loro fabric, and they wholesale to other premier brands. haven’t purchased a long coat from Loro yet, but I keep an eye out every season. I tend to get distracted by most fashion type coats,so end up with Chanel or Dior (neither of which is warm). Or, Hermes, which, in cashmere, tends to pill, and is not warm . (If you like the look of Hermes double faced cashmere, I recommend akris, durable and warmer)

The one long coat I have from Brunello is cut a bit closer to my body, but it still flows. It’s classic but not conservative, and I think it bridges the divide between sartorial and fashion. In 2022, it retailed for 12K USD, but my SA snagged it for me at 60% off. Even at that price, it gave me pause, bc it’s so relatively simple.

If it’s cold in my neck of the woods, I tend to grab a puffer (moncler/ Bogner/ fulsalp). If it’s not cold and I want something fun and fashionable, I layer another brand. So this type of coat is a niche, but forever piece for me. Loro Piana does go to sample sale which is better priced than boutique sale, but if you can wait for a department store post holiday sale, you might be able to get a good deal. HTH
