There is a very reputable jeweller in Toronto whose sales people routinely offer people discounts on Rolex without them requesting it - perhaps it differs from dealer to dealer ?

Although I think the higher end brands put pressure on jewelers not to discount, if they're hungry, they'll discount anyway. I bought my Cartier watch from a chain jewelry store and they quietly offered me 15% off. I don't think they want it widely known for two reasons:

1. They might lose their 'authorized dealer' contract, and
2. They probably try to assess the customers' willingness/ability to pay the retail price, purchasing history, etc. before offering the discount.

I'm not in the biz, so this is just a guess.

In Hong Kong, it is a common for all watch shops to give discounts (on Cartier, Rolex etc.). You can usually get 15-20% off on a Cartier watch, depending on the model. The Cartier boutiques don't offer discounts but they have the limited editions and the newer models.

I would try to get the discount at the jewelers. I've never tried it but, I don't see what would hurt you trying.

As for buying jewelry from OS, I don't think I would feel comfy buying from them.

I definitely agree. Nothing against Overstock as they do have great items at low prices, but as far as watches are concerned, I'd want to make sure that the piece I'm getting will keep or increase its value in time. Making an appearance on Overstock certainly points toward the opposite direction.
There are rolex watches on overstock....does that decrease the value of rolex watches? I am just wondering

I would be wary of the authenticity of these watches, even before questioning whether they will lower the overall value. I recently asked Overstock where these watches came from, being that they are advertised as ore-owned, and apparently the CS reps have no info other than they ship from China.

Hi wondering if you could pm me what retailer in to you are referring to? I've started looking for a Rolex but having a hard time finding a local retailer. Thx

So ok, I was thinking of getting Cartier Santos denoiselle in two tones this year but after reading this thread I am not sure now if I should get it. I mean I love the design as its elegant and very subtle, i saw a lady in my yoga class wearing it and I love how it looks. Now I dont know if there is other brand that has this type of look ( understated &classic). If you guys know any other watch, please do recommend to me. I got till May to decide since my parents are flying to London to see me and promised to get me a watch as a belated birthday present.
