Tortoiseperson and felix those auctions sound great but I'm not sure where in this part of the US I'd find that opportunity. I'd love to see your Tank Basculante Tortoise person.
thanks for weighing in Antiqueshopper

I think the watch chooses the wrist. You might have to try them on and see which one looks the best on you. I love the classic black strap Cartier tank, and it looked horrible on me, but the Tank Francaise was great. Good luck. It seems with Cartier as well, that there really are no bad choices!

I thought from your initial post that you had a source for a pre-owned Panthère, so I just wanted to reassure you that pre-owned doesn't have to be thought of as second-best!

This is my Tank Basculante Millennium edition (hence the MM instead of XII at 12 o'clock) this is how the Basculante function works (similar principle to a Reverso but pivoting vertically instead of horizontally).

As I said, this is a man's and it has a traditional buckle strap rather than the Cartier déployant clasp, so when it's warm I fasten it on the second to last hole and on cold days, on the last hole to be tighter. My wrists are average (5.¾") and I take a size 7½ glove.

We did get a new strap for it - I'd have preferred it anyway as leather isn't as hygienic as a metal bracelet but because the original was crocodile it was confiscated by Christies - they just gave us the buckles which were then put on the new strap. (Crocodile whose origin couldn't be vouched for? they had no problem selling crocodile Birkins recently).

Saligator, this may seem like a dumb quesion, but how did you realize the watch didn't look good on you? Most jewelry stores don't seem to have full length mirrors. That was one thing I was having trouble with...looking at the watch on my wrist but not seeing it in scale with my whole body.
