would you prefer a pre-owned panthiere to an entry level tank solo? seems like the panthiere is kind of special because it's no longer made but there is something about new ....

Go for the design you love the most!

Two of my Cartiers were bought at auction and I don't mind that they were pre-owned. In fact both were specific models that aren't made any more and I was pleased to be able to get hold of them.

As tortoiseperson said, at the end of the day, go for the one that you prefer on your wrist and want to look at! I have friends who mention that they want a specific watch as it is not made any more and even though they like it they do not love it!

Auctions can be a great place to find watches and also open your eyes to other models that you had not noticed or were beyond price range at full RRP.

When I say auction, just to clarify I mean somewhere like Christies, Sotheby's not eBay!

We managed to pick up quite recently at Christie's London an LE Tank Basculante Millennium. It just happened to be numbered 28/365 - 28 is my birth date - so it was obviously meant for me. It wasn't going properly so we took it to the Cartier boutique who sent it back to France for a full service. They are always very happy to service, clean, repair genuine pre-loved Cartiers and when we bought my Santos, also at auction, the in-house workshop cleaned it, polished it and regulated it free, handed it back with the words "No charge - it's a Cartier!"

That is great, I actually got my watch at Sotheby's as they had stopped making it from Collection Prive. Auctions can be a great place to get a watch from, however, I usually have to go in with set markers as to what I am going to bid etc as otherwise I could be in trouble!

thank you all for your opinions and insight
for clarification, since you can't really tell by the photos, both of these are like a small men's or a mid-sized watch
the Panthere is a men's but it is small comparted to men's watches today....the ladies version of this watch is very small

My Tank Basculante is also a men's but it's quite slim and flat - I can try and get a pic for you of it on my wrist if you'd like to see it, tomorrow (bedtime now) I'm only 5'3 with smallish hands but it doesn't look "wrong".

In cold weather I do have to have it on the tightest hole (leather strap) you'd need to make sure that they could remove enough links to make the metal bracelet fit you.
