Hello!

Bringing back up an age-old debate: the bag or the jewelry?

For arguments sake, imagine that in both cases you are starting from scratch: i.e. you don’t own an Hermes B/K , and you don’t own a Cartier LOVE. You have no purchase history at either boutique.

How would you choose between getting a love bracelet today, or a possibility of getting a Birkin or Kelly in France in the near future?

To help answer questions:
- It is for a special anniversary / milestone
- You will be in France in the near future
- Cartier prices are going up 5% in the on 6/30
- You are happy with the rest of your bag and jewelry collection and just wanted to add these last two pieces.

Same as above. You can walk in and buy a love anywhere, even in the future back in EU where you can claim part of the VAT back. But if you could score a B/K (esp if you are flexible size/ color, which means most likely you will be able to), I would choose to buy the bag first as well.

This ^ Love bracelets aren’t difficult to buy. And if you can buy a B/K in Paris without a lot of other spend, then it’s a “bargain”. :happydance:

Hermes is not a guaranteed purchase.
You may get offered a bag but it might not be the colour/size you are after and it’s unlikely they bring out more than one for you to choose especially if you don’t have a purchase history with them. If you are willing to accept any bag they offer (that’s if they have any to offer you) for the sake of buying a Hermes b/k then take a chance on it because scoring in Paris might be easier than your home country Hermes. It really depends on how much you want the bag to risk paying the increase of Cartier if you don’t get the bag and end up buying the Cartier. Would the increase bother you?
For me, I wouldn’t buy a b/k if it’s not in the size or colour I want. Between the 2, I would get the Cartier as you will get exactly what you want even if it’s out of stock they can order it for you. I prefer jewellery over a bag!
If you are really indecisive and love both equally, you always can try for the bag and if unsuccessful just go to Cartier and get the love regardless of price increase?

Thanks for your suggestion. I did look into it and, unexpectedly, Cartier is more expensive in France by about $1,200(!) The prices are going up globally too on 6.30. The VAT refund would unfortunately not make up a price savings compared to US price.
