Ah, which McQueen pieces do you have? I have two crepe suits and some wool pants and was pleased with the quality, which means I must not have experienced the very best!

Have you noticed any stains on the silk from this method? I read somewhere that silk develops oil stains if not cleaned after each wear, which sounds terrifying! I haven't noticed anything on my black silks which I've been able to wear many times before having to clean, but now that I've added some ivory and colored pieces, this approach feels more risky.

I somehow missed your very long and thoughtful response! Very helpful, thank you. I am the same way where I would prefer to delegate to a professional cleaner because I simply don't trust myself to DIY without error - but finding the right cleaner is truly a challenge. Appreciate the tip of testing different cleaners with less precious garments first and working up to higher quality. This does seem like the only way.
I have an Alexander McQueen black wool tuxedo jacket from a trouser suit-the wool trousers wore out a few months ago.
I’ve bought a gabardine skirt with a satin waistband to match with the jacket to create a suit again.

It looks like this(I’m sorry I was looking a real mess that day-it was a hot summer day and not really appropriate for a wool suit ).

I’m glad you’re pleased with yours!

I Also used to wear Alexander McQueen for Givenchy -I had a 4 piece suit -2 jackets, trousers and a skirt, and the quality was amazing then.

In the world of luxury goods, quality is not always synonymous with durability. I would encourage everyone to wear and use their nicest things, every day - otherwise they just become "Collector's Pieces" (as in, sitting in your closet collecting dust)

Nice clothes become meaningful, even more special pieces when you make memories with them.

I Totally second this!!!

So many great tidbits of wisdom on this thread. My biggest piece of advice is be mindful of storing the items and pay attention to however the designer recommends storing pieces. If you hang your items up, be careful what piece you place next to it in your closet as it could snag or even color transfer. Some items need to be folded, some need to be in storage bags. Chanel’s site has some good guidance for their pieces depending on the material: https://www.chanel.com/us/fashion/care-instructions/ready-to-wear/
