Hi! I just wanted to find out what everyone's opinion on LV canvas is. I'm having a dilemma :/

I currently have 6 LV items, 2 of them are bags. I was living in another country when I bought all of these items. Since the area I was living in is one of the wealthiest in the country, there was a healthy amount of luxury brands and and everything was authentic. I'm now in the United States and have seen an absurd amount of LV (more than half fake) and it has been really disappointing. I even exchanged my monogram alma for DE yesterday after seeing so many fake monogram bags. Then today I saw two fake DE bags. Now I want to sell my new bag... :( (P.S. it also doesn't help that I found a horrible subreddit about fakes and was reading about how so many people buy fake LV)

Now here are my questions:
1. Should I sell the alma or keep it?
2. Am I crazy for becoming disillusioned with my purchases after seeing so many fakes in the US?
3. Does anyone feel that LV canvas is too common (both fake and authentic) and therefore not worth the money?

Any respectful opinions are welcome :) ALSOOOO I admit that I am very easily influenced haha

It’s common yes, but it shouldn’t matter. I feel like LV is timeless & a good investment because it proves to be the most popular bag throughout. Don’t let it bother you, these bags are common for a reason :) I love my speedy b DE & even tho it’s almost a year old it still looks brand new , I don’t baby this bag the tiniest bit

1. If you love the Alma, keep it. Don't worry

2. Unfortunately there are fakes of many bags out there... they even make fake Coach bags and the prices of authentic Coach are so ridiculously reasonably priced, especially if you shop at an outlet, that it's kind of sad people buy the fakes instead. I was a Coach girl in high school/college (and still kind of am!), and never got the big deal over the fakes...and it made me feel good that I was able to save and get the real thing instead of spending $50 on a dupe. Don't worry about other people, they buy the fakes because they can't have the real thing and want to look good - I'm a big fan of 90 day fiance and all of the trashy folks on there have fake designer stuff because they want to sell us a "lifestyle" that they don't really have. That said, I know exactly the subreddit you are talking about, and I've browsed it multiple times. The funny part is all the trouble they go through to get the fakes.

3. I think Monogram is overrated because I think it's overdone in general and on large items it's a little bit much and busy to me. I'm not big on all-over logos though, but hey to each their own! Monogram LV will never ever go out of style, it's been the house signature for ages.

DE and DA are lovely and while still faked, are less common than Mono and a bit more subtle, which is why I prefer them. You may also consider Emprinte, which is the iconic mono canvas look on leather, I don't think I've seen any LV Emprinte 'out in the wild' that I can remember. I've also started looking into less common brands for more 'unique' bags. I bought a lovely Strathberry tote recently that I will be using as an alternate for my DE Neverfull once we can return to the office. I also have a beautiful Danse Lente bag that I have NEVER seen anyone else carry.

Does women wearing CZs stop women from buying and wearing diamonds? No. And LV canvas is just as timeless. The fact they are wearing fakes shows how desirable it is. If YOU love it, wear it. Unlike those with fakes, your bag will look beautiful in 20 years and STILL be worth more than their fake. There is something to be said for “this old thing? I’ve had it foreeeeever...” Can’t do that with a fake.

My question is, why do you buy lv, and what does it mean to you?

Only asking because from my experience, people who put too much weight on the authenticity of their bag vs. other people's bags tend to be a little more classist. The average person will not know the difference between a real and fake lv, so much so that even some A-list celebs have been photgraphed with fakes. Globally, I think the stat is 99% of lv items are fake.

If you buy lv because you enjoy the items, that's all that should really matter imo. It shouldn't matter how common the bag is, or if a lot of replicas exist. If anyone thinks that your bag must be fake, because a lot of fakes exist, well it says a lot more about them than it does about you.

I'm in my mid 20s, but I look a lot younger than my age. I'm also Asian, and depending on where you are in America, Asians are not perceived to be well-to-do, let alone be literate and be native English speakers. I've had my fair share of people assume my things were fake, and then tell their co-workers that my items are fake. I just smile and continue with my life. I wear and use my things because I like and enjoy them, not because I want people to acknowledge how much I can afford. If degrading me makes other people feel better, that's not really my problem or concern.

If you like the alma as a bag and it works for you, keep it. If it really concerns you that a lot of the lv you see is fake, I think you need an honest conversation with yourself and what lv, and possibly other luxury brands, mean to you.

I stopped caring a looooong time ago what other people carry or think of what I am carrying. And I am a million times happier for it. If it wasn't my handbag that they might think negatively of, it would be something else. Who are they to you and why care what strangers think?

Personally I am not a fan of monogram print but have ended up with the MPA and PSM and some SLG's and loooove them! Because the styles work for my lifestyle and they're small. And *I* know they're real.

Buy what YOU like, keep what works for YOU. LV or otherwise. If it makes you feel happy and fancy, rock it!

I think you brought up something that I had been unable to put into words myself. I have only used a LV bag once since returning to the US (I used more low key brands before) and got a lot of mean stares from people. I assumed they thought it was fake because I'm a minority. (I was a minority in the country I used to live in too, but this stuff never happened there.) I know it's an ugly mindset to have and I shouldn't be bothered, but a lady at the grocery store was inspecting my bag up and down. And then two guys yelled at my boyfriend saying that either my shoes were fake or he paid for them? So yeah, I guess those two experiences bothered me a lot.

Anyway, I'm glad you posted this. It really made me realize that I'm putting too much weight on how others perceive me. I bought all of those things because they make me happy and I won't let people ruin it for me. I guess I'm just young and dumb sometimes haha.

P.S. I don't know if you were trying to imply that I'm classist? It had nothing to do with that and more of "should I be spending money on something that everyone assumes is fake regardless of how much I personally like it?" And I agree now that it's silly to care about what others think.

I get irritated when I see obvious fakes also, but I know mine are real and that’s all that matters! They are a terrific investment and if they make you feel good, totally worth it.

Definitely agree with this!

I don't agree with fakes as they are known to fund criminal activity. However, you're right! I really don't care what other people do with their lives because it doesn't affect me.
I don’t think anyone TPF would condon a fake. And producing one is already a violation of a federal law. Unfortunately I bet 99.9% of the people who buy these have no idea, so I still cannot judge them.
