Put some dishwashing liquid in a cup with hot water. Leave it for about 30 minutes, brush with soft toothbrush. Rinse with hot water. Dry with hairdryer. Will sparkle like mad!

My mom taught me this trick and it works great.

Take a dental cleaning tablet (for false teeth) I buy these just to clean jewelry

Put the tablet in with HOT water. and as it starts to fizz. put in your diamonds/or gold jewerly.. Leave in a few minutes.. swish around with your finger.and then take out and rinse in hot water. and let 'air dry on a paper towel.

My diamonds and gold. come out - like it was just 'done at the jewelers..

I put my enagagement ring in an eggcup of neat gin :D, and leave for as long as possible to soak and then use a teeny tiny jewellery brush to get rid of any lingering gunk (I have a rollover setting), then soak again and dry off with a paper towel. I make tiny little 'screws' with the paper towel to get up into the back of the setting to dry it out.

It comes out sparkling!!

(Never use gin or any other alcohol for cleaning anything like opals, pearls or anything semi-opaque as it will ruin them, but for diamonds and gold it's the business!)

I use shaving cream/gel/foam and a soft baby tooth brush, soaking a ring in warm water usually helps a lot.. Or i just take everything to the jewelers to clean them professionally.

Different cleaning solutions are available for different metals or gemstones. Since you have not described your ring, its difficult to advice. But Using the appropriate cleaning solution will solve your problem.

Be careful with ultrasonic cleaners and pave settings. I have a pair of in-out diamond pave hoop earrings. I lost a stone yesterday while using the cleaner; I was so lucky and the diamond was still in the cup!
The jeweler was absolutely amazed that I still had the stone and another lucky spot for me was that the goldsmith was using the laser anyways and was able to reset my stone on the spot.
He confirmed that pave & ultrasonic cleaners do not mix well and recommended soft toothbrush with mild soap or to bring it to him (no charge).
