Yesterday I was very surprised and greateful to hear that my three sisters want to club together and buy me a peice of jewellery for my 30th birthday this year. They and I really want something that's going to last and I've kind of settled on a watch, but not sure where to start. Can you help?

Budget is about £500 - £1,000 (I'm UK based)
Must be round, square or octagonal (I can't use watches where the face is too strecthed out)
Feminime
Preferably stainless steel or silver, but will look at leather.
Preferably a wind up, or something where I don't have to worry about replacing the battery.
I like mother of pearl

Is a Cartier or Rolex out of my budget? What other brands are worth looking at?

Any help/ideas would be greatfully received.

Have you looked at Georg Jensen? His watches have a very nice flow and quite feminine, for around £1000 you could have diamonds as well which adds to the femininity!

This line is quite feminine also

Take a look the koppel line as well as they have a few MOP faces and leather strap is quite nice.

This is around £600-700 (I thin the price on there is euros) so maybe they will throw in a ring or something in there too! :)

Are you near a Selfridges? You should head to their wonder room and check out the watches concessions, there's a lot there (I'm not familiar with watches) so you could take a little trip and see what you like and what's within price range!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - I think I will add some money into the pot myself and get a Cartier or Rolex. If this is going to be forever, I don't want to look at it and think there's something better out there. Hopefully I can come back for a reveal soon!

Good narrowed down choices. Cartier is a beautiful watch. And you can get amazing deals on pre-owned as they don't hold their resale quite as well as Rolex. You just have to find reputable places and search. I have recently seen a Must 21 two tone for $1300, a Pasha brand new condition for $2k and a stainless Tank for $650... All amazing deals.

Those are amazing deals. There are a few pre-owned places in London around Hatton Garden and Heddon Street which I'll be checking out soon. Current short list is a Sainless Steel Cartier Santos or a ladies Rolex - fell in love with them when I went on a fact-finding mission to Selfridges last night

You can definitely get a pre-owned Cartier Santos within your buget. I just bought a pre-owned Cartier Santos Galbee automatic (stainless and gold) in mint condition for just under $1,800. It only took me 2 weeks to track it down so they are out there. I love it, it's more of a forever watch than my others and so timeless.
