I understand that these latest price increases may bother some, what I don't understand is why it is now thought that "those prices are ridiculous" when they have ALWAYS been ridiculous compared to what you can get in jewelry that is not designer.

I’m guessing some of the reason could be that the cost of everything is going up and many people are feeling pain, annoyance, and fatigue by it. Many companies are still seeing record profits so increases can be viewed as greed on the part of the businesses.

What an excellent answer! Yes fatigue is a great way to describe it. Also luxury houses made huge profits during lockdown so they are just increasing profits due to greed precisely.

People just need to rant :confused1:. Given the inflation figures it's even a decrease in real terms.

I never understand why people are so quick to defend a multi billion dollar company? They don’t know you. They don’t care about you. Do people feel defensive because they bought pieces? I have too so it’s not meant to be a personal post. I’m just indeed having a small vent. It’s not a huge deal. Keep buying what you want to buy.

Honestly it puts me off when a luxury brand repeatedly increases their prices. But I eventually adjust to it and not long after I find myself coveting something enough to overlook the price. I really dislike being conditioned like this for pretty things I don’t actually need

Cartier and other luxury brands have plenty of wealthy customers who don’t bat an eye at prices or price increases. Not an excuse for them to increase prices, but that’s the cost to play in the luxury goods playground.

I’ll say this year I’m feeling very different about it. We all have a threshold and I’m reaching mine for right now. Money isn’t going as far as it used to, investments are taking a hit, holidays are coming, and the economy may get worse before it gets better. Personally I’d rather hunker down for now. Im not Cartier’s target customer and I’m sure they won’t miss me, and I take no offense to it.

There is another reason why Cartier and the others, aside from Chanel (their price jump has no justification), increased their prices.

USD has just strengthened a lot against Euros and other currencies. This means when they harmonize the currency exchange - the prices will jump.
AUD has dropped pit bottom amongst the other currencies.

When the USD strengthens, the rest of us outside of the US won’t touch US MNC consumer goods, other than Apple, because they are also now too expensive and not worth buying, and if the world looks for cheaper, then the US economy together with its working middle class will be hit hard once they lose out to countries with cheaper exports.

*This.* We didn't see a price increase in the US. The adjustment just seems to be bringing the global prices in line with the US. I actually appreciate a company that does this to keep the market value even. I'm really disappointed when jewelry, purses, etc are sold for much less in other countries. It devalues the item.

Aside from the price increase, I’m also turned off by how dime a dozen Cartier pieces have become. Whenever I pass by the 5th Ave boutique in NYC, there’s always a crazy line outside. Why would I want to spend $$$$ for a piece that a lot of people have? And don’t get me started with the horrendous service of the SAs in Cartier 5th Ave and Hudson Yards…

I’m happy with the pieces I have, but I think I’m also done with Cartier.

Yes thats another good point. I don’t want to stand in a line in the cold waiting to be “let in” like there’s a sale on or I’m bargain shopping at a flea market and I’ve arrived too early. This doesn’t feel like luxury to me. The service where I’ve been has been fine nothing special. I was pregnant and all they gave me was some water when I made my last purchase. You’d think they’d atleast offer me their usual chocolates lol! And yeah I just see Cartier as some kind of rich person uniform now. Love, JUC, and VCA stack. Yawn!

People here are complaining about price increases and at the same time complaining about how the brand is becoming too common. I think this is actually one of the reasons they have to keep increasing prices. To help maintain exclusivity and protect the aspirational status of the brand by pricing more people out. Also, knowing that a brand keeps increasing in price can make customers who aren’t priced out buy more quickly to avoid future price increases and also feel more confident in their “investments” because they know that the value only goes up, not down. I mean, corporate greed and profits is definitely a factor, but I think they also have to consider their image.

I live in a large metropolitan area and I don't see it all that often, not on a daily basis for sure. When I see it I appreciate it and always am curious about the rest of the jewelry worn. It's not remotely "common" at all. I think social media makes it feel more common than it is. JMO
There's price increase threads in every forum, I find Cartier's to be considerably less % than a lot of other designers.
I love my boutique, it's likely if I had bad service I may feel different, but smaller increases, great service and still loving the jewelry and still having a wishlist, I'm still in!

I tend to agree. I live in LA, in my community Cartier is rife. But so is VCA. And Chanel. And LV. The list goes on. I don’t see anything wrong with it! I like it :) It’s fun to see how people wear the brands!

Geez, I'm so glad I bought my bracelet last summer... as expensive as it was at the time, I can't believe there's been 2-3 price increases since. I could understand many increases over the last 10 years when the stock market was on a tear (and incomes) but these seem like bad times for aggressive increases.

Where do you live?
In the US the prices haven't really been increased, it's part of the reason I'm not mad I reckon lol
