Butterfly BTF Ring for my lifestyle?

Hi @nicole0612 thanks for tagging me on this post.

OP, I have some thoughts on this ring..
First, if this is going to be your only BTF ring, I would not get it. I agree with your husband, the butterfly is too whimsical, borderline cutesy jewelry. I would go for the Frivole WG pave. The Frivole WG pave ring pops and is a lot more elegant. The butterfly ring can be your second BTF ring, the fun ring to wear with shorts.

On sizing, I have three BTF rings, and I will share how they fit so you can normalize to your size.

My ring size for a true full circle ring is 53.

- Lotus Ring: The Lotus Ring is called a BTF ring, but the ring is actually a regular full circle ring. Hence, I took my regular size of 53.
- Frivole WG pave Ring: This ring is a true open ring. The opening is about 35% of the circle. Because of that, there is a lot of give. I had to size down to a 52.
- Butterfly Ring: This ring is also a true open ring. However, the circle is almost closed, so the opening is only about 15% of the full circle. For this reason, I find this ring has less room for forgiveness. I thought 52 was my size as it was my size for Frivole. While I could wear the 52, it felt a tiny bit tighter than I preferred, especially when I have a fat finger day. Hence, I went with a 53.

To help visualize this as I realize you may not have seen or tried on all three rings, I took some photos for you.
You can see in my first photo, all three rings.
Lotus is on the left, full circle. Frivole is in the center, 35% open circle. Butterfly is on the right, 15% open circle, so there is less give.

In the second photo, I have drawn a red line showing open space for each ring. You can see the opening is much bigger in Frivole than Butterfly. The Butterfly is almost a closed circle; hence, that's why I went with the 53.

I will also say this, both sizes will fit as they did me, but I would go with the larger size. Why?
Because you will have fat fingers days, and your finger may get larger as you age. Also, because of the design of the BTF rings, they are not going to fall off like a simple wedding band. I wear my rings super loose, all these BTF rings flip on me, so this gives you an idea of how loose I wear my rings. However, none of them have ever fallen off.

If you decide against a BTF ring for now and go with earrings, no doubt in my mind... I would get the Frivole pave earrings. They pop and are so blingy! I tried on the butterfly earrings, and they are a bit too cutesy for me (or whimsical, to use a kinder word).
The Frivole is much more elegant to me, but jewelry is 100% preference.

By the way, you probably think I hate the butterfly ring since I sound like I am trashing it!:heart:
On the contrary, I do love it. However, I want to share that when I wear it, I feel girly girl and cutesy, I definitely do not feel nor give off the vibe of sophisticated lady. I love it with shorts and casual wear, but I would not wear it for business or "posh" events where glamour matters. The Frivole WG pave BTF ring I wear with anything, shorts, suits, etc.

As FYI, it was my third BTF ring; my first was Frivole which remains my favorite ring and earrings. Frivole WG pave is stunning! Super blingy, super elegant, all glamour!:heart:
Just wanted to share that to help you decide.

Hope this helps you and others who might be interested.

For the ring, does anyone know the conversion between US ring size and btf ring size? I tried it on in France, and I forget what size I was.

I wear a size 4.5 or 5. I feel like I was a size 47 to 49. But I don’t remember. I know you size down usually, to accommodate the gap. Does anyone have guidance on how they sized the 2-butterfly ring?
Here is a conversion table. This is from a US view of the world, so you can see the French numbers are not whole numbers. Most US ring sizes convert to a fraction which makes ring sizing a bit tough.

I am a size 6.5 US, so my French size would be 52 3/4 which does not exist.
Therefore, for a full circle standard ring, I buy 53.
A BTF ring will vary, hence you can see based on my 6.5 US ring size, I am a 53 as well as a 52.

Hope this helps.

I think the ring has a lot of give because it’s open. Also, even though you can’t resize the ring, you kinda also can. Or add beads on the inside if you need it slightly smaller. My purchase decision would be based on how drastically your ring size changes, since the design does offer a lot of accommodation anyway.

I do prefer the ring more than the earrings. I think the design shows better.
Sorry for another post, but I have thoughts on beads in case you have never done beads.

I had a Tiffany ring resized, to 6.5. I wear my rings very loose, so my rings flop anyway. This ring was a very top heavy ring, so the ring would never stay up. I did not want to size down to a 6.25 as mentally, I can't deal with an off-size. The SA suggested beads, and I said okay. I got the updated ring, and I did not like the beads. I felt like they were constantly poking me. I could probably gave gotten used to it.

However, the bigger issue for me was the beads were so ugly. I know it's on the inside of the ring and no one can see it. However, I can, and total aesthetics is important in a jewelry piece. Fine jewelry pieces should look fabulous front and back. I felt the beads made my ring look like some a Frankenstein ring. I told the SA I cannot live with beads, so Tiffany removed the beads, and I had it resizee to a 6.25.

I know some people don't mind beads, but I wanted to share my thoughts to help you decide. I would say wait and get your proper size.

Thank you so much everyone for the replies! I’ve been busy with the baby so haven’t found time to respond, but I read everyone’s response! I really appreciate all the insight.

I’ve decided to not get the ring and hold out until it’s the right time- that could mean once my weight stabilizes well after postpartum or years down the road with the added possibility of another baby, just definitely, not right now. As much as I love it and it still makes my heart sing every time I see it, it’s just not a sensible nor fair purchase for it to sit unworn or be worn for a short, uncertain time period. Perhaps I just needed the right discouragement (lol).

I’ve also decided that the Butterfly Earrings won’t cut it for me. As others have mentioned, I don’t think they have as much presence as the BTF ring and the design shows better in the ring. It’s the ring or nothing, haha.

On a side note, perhaps to further poke at my uncertainty and longing for a BTF ring, I gave the Frivole Pave BTF ring another try on, and I fell completely unexpectedly swooned. Won’t be getting a BTF ring anytime soon as I mentioned, but what do you guys think? For the future- Butterfly BTF ring or Frivole Pave BTF ring?
