Brown or Black - Most Versatile/Year 'round?

If it's expensive and you wanted black, I'd wait. But personally I prefer brown. A reddish brown sounds lovely, actually. Black always seems boring to me and faded black just never looks good to me whereas faded or worn brown looks vintage or natural.

I don't think either color is necessarily more year round. Depends on your wardrobe. I like color and yellow is actually more my year round bag. :)

^agree!

But though faded black often looks a little too shabby, it can also add some roughness to your outfit? :D Faded brown = rustic.

I always used black bags year round until recently, but currently I have three black leather, one black and gray pattern, one ivory and two light and dark brown patterns (including one LV ebene). I thought it would bother me not 'matching' (I never wear anything else brown) but I don't even think about it anymore. I know lots of people only carry LV mono or ebene year round regardless of what colour their clothes and shoes are.

I'm a brown-a-holic. I wear a lot of head to toe black and find that a chocolate bag or a cognac bag makes the outfits look a bit richer and less gothic or biker or "evil" as I have long black hair and when I'm left to play at my bathroom make-up counter I can go a bit overboard with eye make-up. So, for me, a chocolate or cognac or camel bag makes everything a bit more sophisticated. I carried a Vuitton large Noe bag for six years until it simply wore out and like the original post mentions, the brown monogram complimented an all black outfit.

For me, I find that almost all of my outfits can coordinate with a dark brown bag, but not all of my clothes will look good with a black bag. (Example: white shorts and a ocean green/brown print tank top - brown bag fine, black bag won't go. All black jeans and turtleneck: brown bag will still work)

I'm dying to find the perfect replacement for my LV classic monogram Noe. It's a tough task.

This is tough, not to mention there's no right answer. There are many shades of brown, some are better than others. There is only one black, although it can have textures, etc. on and on you get it. Black is classic & sexy therefore gets a slight edge.

1. You shouldn't settle, so if you truly want black, wait for it. 2. What's your current bag collection in black and brown? Every woman needs one of each. I wear more browns, earth tones, etc. so brown gets more of a workout than black. Which color will go best with your wardrobe? Good luck!

Hello. I was trying to figure out which color of a gorgeous iconic classic bag to get recently, ginger/nutmeg color brown or black. I was in the store for a long time trying to decide. So I bought both! They are both gorgeous! I think a brown or a black bag is just so classic it goes with everything, although I do not like a dark tan color brown, I prefer this nutmeg/ginger brown color, it simply divine!

Of course anyone can wear anything they want. Being happy is key.

However, if you are concerned about the look, I have to say I'm really am not a fan of brown bags with black and grey. The very, very limited exception is when a look deliberately combines them in a very conscious and fashion forward way.

Also, you shared that you really wanted the bag in black. I always feel we should hold out for the exact bag we want - even if it means waiting a little longer or hunting a little more. I've always regretted when I buy an "almost bag". It's soooo hard not to do. But they're always big mistakes.

So, I'd hope you'd wait and get the black bag. I think it will go better with your wardrobe and most importantly, it's the one you really wanted.

I agree, if there were 2 classic colours in my wardrobe, all year round and for everything I'd go for Gucci Tobacco (also a ginger) and black.
