Bought my HG sunnies on Real Real...

This is particularly scary for those of us who are not yet able to determine real vs fake on our own yet. We put trust in the real real to authenticate items.
This op was able to determine authenticity on her own but not everyone can do that.( I know I can't)
It's a shame because people will really think twice before ordering now .

You really should get everything you buy from a second hand source authenticated. Even sites and sellers that have a great track record can make mistakes.

I personally do but I'm sure not everyone does ( see Gucci authentication thread lol)
When I opened my box from them, I immediately took the images for authentication. I was already afraid from reading other threads here. (Luckily castira said mine was authentic)

I can authenticate most of my own items, but teven still I use outside sources simply for the peace of mind. When we buy consignment, I think there will always be a nagging voice in your mind until you’ve gone through a couple experts.

That said, I also believe some things are easily caught—these sunnies being one example. I’ll definitely post this to general shopping, including the email I sent. I was reasonable, but I specifically outlined exactly what was wrong & went so far as to show comparisons of the real thing & the cleanness of the text on a similar style from the same time period (the 5120.)

How screwed up that their customer is more of an expert on their merchandise than they are(?!?!)

Lastly, what one of you mentioned above is one of my biggest issues. tPF readers are typically an extreme example of authenticating pre-owned goods. When a site like TRR has positioned itself as ‘guaranteed’ luxury consignment, has their capital (a friend used to be one of their wealth managers!) & they do this with something obvious, they’ve failed to maintain a reputation. I understand things happen, but as TRR has grown, it’s been to the detriment of quality control & customer care.

I’m hoping for a reply before I post all the detail to general shopping. I’m trying to be fair, even as unhappy as I may be.

Thank you for the support, everyone. I appreciate it.

So finally an update:

I got my money back... 2 days ago. This was after multiple calls, e-mails, calling them out on Twitter & posting this.

Keep in mind I actually returned multiple things (principle) and those refunds were received right away. The stupid glasses were the sole hold out. I didn’t remove tags or anything; they were packaged as they arrived. They couldn’t ever give a reason as to why it took nearly a month from the time of purchase until I received the refund—even though the others had been in my account for 2 weeks.

Bottom line: I’m done with realreal. I’ve shopped with them a decent amount (clothes & shoes for the most part) & while yes, they have some good prices, the customer service is so far gone & their social media people even refused to admit a mistake or apologize... they just went on claiming their team of authenticators were ‘experts.’ Not worth the headache.

I hope this has helped someone to be aware. Also, if you see a pair of s5018 or 5018 Chanel ½ tint sunnies, chances are, they’re the ones I just returned. Do not buy them unless you want to spend $700 on counterfeit merchandise.

I hope you’re all having a good weekend.

My gosh. I didn't even have to zoom in on your pics to know the glasses they sent you were fake. The case alone. The CC logo... Will never purchase from them knowing they sold something like that as authentic.

Bumping this up after a friend of mine bought a NWT Calvin Klein collection dress at 90% off... that ended up needing serious repair. They said it was in pristine condition. Because it was on the final sale, no refund. Also be aware if you’re seeking Nike x Off-White—they have a lot of fake Jordan high tops. It’s a true disaster. :(
