personally? yeah, i think it's too much for what you got.

now if it were synthetic stones set in a gold or platinum setting, then it would be worth it. but otherwise, considering it's silver with possibly fake stones, i think $130 is a bit much, and to be honest, it bothers me that the seller has sold it to you claiming it to be authentic sapphires. i don't care how old it is.

whether or not it was intentional on the seller's part is irrelevant. it was misrepresented and i'm assuming you paid with PayPal, therefore you're covered. you could have gone to a pawn shop and purchased something a lot nicer for the same price and it would not only be authentic gold, but real stones, as well.

to put it into perspective, i purchased a white gold ring with 5 diamonds at a pawn shop last year for $175, and it was appraised at $1,200.

i would send it back to the seller and request a full refund. thankfully, ebay definitely sides by the buyers more so than the sellers in cases like this.

good luck.

Since I was selling my jewelry, the store didn't charge me anything. You could pretend you are going to sell it to them. The store asked me at the end of valuing everything if I still wanted to sell to them, so you don't have to sell in the end if you don't want to.

In terms of $130 being expensive for costume, I would say no. Go check out the J. Crew website, you'll be amazed at how much they charge for their stuff! And let's face it, even Hermes/Chanel have costume jewelry and they charge way more for their stuff. So if you like it then I say keep it. Even the jewelers couldn't tell if it was real or not!

As a collector and seller of vintage jewelry, I don't think you overpaid. 800 silver was typically used in Germany and Austria and this design is consistent with the era the seller claims it is. I've had synthetic rubies in platinum from the same period. I suspect the stones are synthetic (which is lab made corundum, different from glass or paste, and yes, was done in that time period). It could use a good cleaning. By the way, glass looks very different than even a synthetic stone when viewed under magnification.

It's your decision whether or not to keep it but I think it's a lovely period piece for which you paid a fair price.

I agree. I collect vintage jewelry too. I don't think it's an outrageous price for silver, especially these days, even if the stones turn out to be glass. It's very pretty and a very nicely made piece. If you love it and get a lot of wear out of it then $133 is a good price.

oh you have to scroll down for more pics, its set in 800 silver, i was told that that's common of the time period

I have an Edwardian bracelet (800 silver) and it has a few rubies on (5), they are real, not of excellent quality or cut, they are dull, but I like them.
If you like the bracelet don't think too much about the stones really, and don't compare it with modern jewelry.

I never cleaned it, it was passed to me by a family member in a good condition. Local weather helps a lot with silver , it is very dry usually all year long.
