Blogger who trashes her expensive bags

The vibe I get from this article is smug. Whilst I'm all for doing whatever you want with your property, I sense the author does this not for personalization but more for "look at this coveted bag and look what I've done! It doesn't mean anything me trash a 1,000+ on bag," attitude.

She could easily buy cheaper bags and deface them but chooses expensive bags purposely. I see it has smug for other people who save for a long time or for artistic aspect of the bag.

Personally, if I spent 1k on a bag, I wouldn't deface just because I can. I would choose a cheaper bag.

I get creativity but seriously? if she wanted to make a statement, how about not buying the darn things and show what one could come up with instead.

To me this is like the haves trying to act like the haves not when it suits vs out of necessity.

Well, the bags are probably financed by her blog, if all the ads are any indication, so maybe she considers it free money. She clearly differentiates between the $1K bag and $10K bag; perhaps $1K just isn't that much money to her.

I don't mind what she does to her bags but I think there's a self-hate thing going on here.

We all know we could buy 'train wrecks' of good bags for very little money if we wanted that look. That's the logical pathway if one really likes the beaten up look. Her insistence that she pays so much money for them and then she hates them when she gets home so she destroys their looks translates that she hates her bag addiction, blames the bag and then takes out her inability to control herself by beating a bag up.

Yep. She pretty much confirms this in the comments section.
The comments were actually more interesting than the article.

I think you may be on to something. The fact that she drew a heart on the bottom of the bag, where it will probably be prone to the most damage/abuse, says a lot.

Personally, I don't like the in-your-face tone this blogger has. I'm also sure that's her whole point. She can do what she wants, but it doesn't impress me, and I won't be visiting her blog again.

I didn't get that far, I'll have to read through, thank you for pointing that out.

I was more shocked at her bragging of how she manipulated her 'competitor' (even belittling this woman carefully considering the would-be purchase) and then boasted that she ordered the SA around using foul expressions and then justifying it. That is not the behaviour of well/happy/sane person IMO :sunnies

She probably has something like a double personality disorder

I don't understand why it's ok to trash a $100 bag but not a $1000 one?

Personally, I couldn't care less how much her bags cost. She paid for them, she can do what she wants with them. To me it's makes no difference if it's 10, 100, 1000, or 10,000. Not my money.

About her attitude, I think she sounded more angry than smug in the article.
Either way, I don't like or dislike her.

Good point. Her treatment of people is more troubling than her treatment of her bags!

In all honesty, there are serious anger issues in that blog and anyone even reading that sort of stuff should beware. Some sort of therapy is in order there, and it has nothing to do with bags, it is attention seeking, aggressive behaviour...

This part of her writing struck me:
"*I got the bag home, called all my friends to gloat, loved it, carried it everywhere and basically considered asking to be buried with it. Then it began creeping up on me -- that unsatisfied feeling I get when looking at a new, pristine, outrageously $$ bag.My solution was to shove it in the washing machine to beat it up. Instant character and street-worthiness."

I understand that scars & wrinkles show character, on human beings, on bags.
However, most people don't purposefully go seeking those TO ESTABLISH character--they let courageous deeds, kind words, important work, loving with a whole heart, etc. build it.
Same idea for bags/possessions. Allow them naturally to accumulate the marks of sharing in a life well-lived.

I've seen people roam through this forum with a similar attitude. I feel sad for them, but I figure they'll work it out for themselves. Part of growth.
Same with this blogger, imo.

Thanks for posting--interesting :)
